Prepping and painting the white knuckle off road sliders. Really impressed with the quality of these. Sat in the original packing in my closet for about 2 months, and there was almost no superficial rust on the bare steel. It’s clear they took a lot of care packing them for delivery.

this self etching primer is brutal! Even with a P100 mask and being outside, the smell is awful. My beard doesn’t help the mask fitment, but I’m glad I’ve got it.

will let the primer cure overnight, then paint tomorrow. Install Saturday will be interesting by myself…

Looks great. Please post images once installed. I am about to order these as well and can't decide between angled 11 degrees and flat.

Loaded up the kids for a weekend of car camping at Echo Bluff State Park. The GX handles way better when with the Ironman FCP lift, even when loaded with lots of camping stuff. The back-end always seemed to have some side-to-side motion before, now that is all gone. It also rides a lot nicer in general and handles curvy back roads with way less body roll. It squatted down to about level with ~3-400 lbs of people and gear in the back.

A few very recent additions to my Prado. 285’s, side awning, pedal covers and bug/wind deflector. I also got the roof rack bug and am now accumulating parts for a DIY build just because I like building things. Hopefully more on that sooner than later.

Looks really good. I want to paint a set of those wheels in gunmetal. I think they would look great.
Definitely my favorite OEM wheel. The previous owner of the wheels dipped these in black, looked good as well. You can see the front center cap is still black lol

Installed some rear long travel IMS shocks from Dobinsons. Quite a bit more travel vs the Bilstein 5160s I was using before.

What are you doing for bump stops in the rear? Any extension?
2" metal tech extensions are on the way. That full flex pic leaves the factory bump stops about 1/4" off the axle. 2" should be sufficient to protect the shock from bottoming out on hard hits and maximize up travel.

Explored some back roads in Shannon County and got about as far out as you can in MO (a good hour on backroads from any kind of pavement). I'd been wanting to check these out for years. They were pretty tame (would be no problem in a Subaru). Next time I'll ride them on my gravel bike instead.

Took Friday off and went up Santa Rosa Truck Trail (7S02) to hang out by myself for the day… soak up some nature. This photo is at Desert Steve Ragsdale’s old burnt down cabin at the peak of Santa Rosa ~8,000’

Here’s a photo of the cabin from Russ Leadabrand’s 1969 book, Exploring California Byways III - Desert Country.

Yesterday I swapped out both CV axles (torn boots due to me being not careful enough when putting the lift on), installed a set of DuroBumps and torqued down rear suspension bolts/nuts after a few weeks of driving with the Ironman FCP lift. I removed the CV axles with a slide hammer, which is super-easy. During the test drive, I noticed the GX had developed a bad brake pull to the right. When inspecting, I found that the inside of the driver's front wheel was covered in brake fluid. Whatever reman caliper the PO installed was leaking at the seam between the caliper halves. Perhaps I had bumped it with a hammer when replacing the front CV axles, but either way it should not have been so fragile.

After a quick trip to NAPA and ~2 hrs in the shop I installed a pair of Total Eclipse reman front calipers and bled the front brakes. We'll see how the hold up, the the overall quality appeared pretty good when I installed them. The GX stops much better now (better pedal feel - calipers had been mis-matched with an OEM on one side and a reman on the other) and the brake pull is gone.
