Last October I was heading out on a quick run with @splitshot and I noticed something odd about my driver's side spring hanger on the FJ40 - it wasn't quite all there

I ordered two replacement spring hangers from SOR & finally got around to replacing the broken one so I can drive it to Cruise Moab.

The broken driver's side

The passenger side hanger has a crack at the rear rivet - it needs changing out too (some day)

I wonder where the missing quarter is . . . hanger was still held on by 2 1/2 rivets :cautious:

I welded fine thread grade 8 bolts to scrap metal "arms" because there is no way to get a wrench into the boxed frame

Boltz

Tightened down & welded the nutz onto the boltz, and ran a bead along the frame to limit movement

Painted & reinstalled spring with new bushings & hanger bolt

Only one rivet was loose in the frame hole - had to drill out the other two

Did another full rear spring swap: 2721 --> 2723. The moment I liberated the second spring, the FedEx truck pulled up with the new 23's. The box never even touched the floor before the springs went in. I love it when a plan comes together. Ride is much better, too.

Wow, mine just has a hairline crack, I better get after it before it becomes that far involved.

Yeah, I’m leaning towards just welding the crack on the passenger side hanger. It hasn’t been moving around like the driver side did.

Triple checked mine, and the rears now. All good but a cracked weld on the front hanger, front axle. on the passenger's side. Easy fix.

In the past month I've done a few little things. Got new Dobinson VT Springs to match the MRR suspension (installed at Higgy's, awesome experience as always), I replaced my front drive flanges after noticing they had some play in them, replaced my wiper arm assemblies, and threw in some new OEM front & rear drive shafts!

Decided to take it all out on a little test drive up to Bear Canyon Lake for the day. Overall, the 80 has never driven as smoothly as it does right now and I love it. I just need to figure out why my check engine light randomly came on during the drive home.

Also, new wheels came in yesterday, I like the Icon wheels on the 200 so much I decided to give the Rebound Pro's a try on the 80. I'm going to hold off on mounting them until I get new Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 35x11.50r17 so I can just put them all on at the same time.

I'll end up selling this wheel & tire combo (Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 285/75r17 with about 30k miles on them) with unknown brand wheels that came with the truck when I bought it. The spare is matching size but in a bit more rough shape and on a wheel as close to matching as I could find. If anyone would be interested in a cheap set of 5 wheels & tires, let me know!

Installed spc lowers after doing whiteline flex bushings in the uppers. Truck rides so smooth on the road don’t know how much it’ll help Offroad. But I’m happy. And finally dropped the rear sway bar.

I love the "Little things" over "Major things"
Someday we will all get there. I have gotten to the point I am almost there, just one more....:hmm:

I appreciate that, amidst all of this great work, you also scissor trimmed your dash mat to clear the defrost. I did that too.

Owned since new. Did all the 90K maintenance way back when. Has 149K miles. Just changed all the fluids. Time to change Heater T's. Ordered Toyota OEM yesterday. Will do that as soon as they arrive. Everything looks great, zero rust and all gizmos work like new. Just installed Wet Okole seat covers over the front. No rips or tears in leather, but better to protect them now.. Go out in the desert which is close by often.

The "major things" are fun but the little things just add a little something extra that make things just *that* much nicer
Maybe one day I'll get there, just two more things...;)

This is at 149k. Has the pink crust and fell apart when taking them off. Pink crust equals emergency replace

Finally put this thing on the rack after ome 850/860’s, slee plates, 30mm front spacers on 315’s pretty good I say. But found out both tie rod and drag links are bent. And I think I need to do a proper dc front shaft now.
