Hey there... so I am working to replace the mechanical fuel pump that is on the BBC with a Carter P4070 electronic fuel pump. I am getting ready to find a good spot to mount the pump and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. I understand that it should be as close to the tank as possible and located at a locations that is below the level of the tank so that it does not need to pull the fuel into the pump (gravity feed = happy pump).
My other question is wrt the orientation of the Carter P4070 pump... does it matter if it "hangs" or "sits" on the supplied mounting bracket? I have email Carter to ask this questions but was wondering if anyone has worked this out already...

First picture is the correct orientation for the pump. I don't know what your application is, but I'd find a place inside the frame rail where the fuel lines are already running and near the tank. I'd also give consideration to what other parts are in proximity to it and potential for impact.

My thought if your running dual exhaust with the V8 closer to the tank is better. Less likely to have vapor lock on the positive side of the pump. With the stock six the fuel line mounted on the frame rail opposite side of the exhaust.

Zor,
Thanks for the information. I will mount it with the fuel lines on top. I just don't like the electrical wires hanging out the bottom, especially with a push-on connection. Maybe I could drill a small hole and put in come cotter pins to lock them down.
Certainly need to find a spot that is tucked out of the way from road debris.

Living in the Past,
Welcome to my life of trying to remedy vapor lock. The PO had the fuel line routed pretty close to the exhaust (dual exhaust on the passenger side) and inside of the frame rail so once it warmed up the fuel supply slowed and then completely stopped. I could actually see the fuel supply in the clear fuel filter that I installed slowing down and then stopping as the engine heated up.
Many thanks as always for helping me out.
One of these days I will get Rusty on the road and these tribulations will be a memory of the past... hopefully to share someday with some whippersnapper like you did with me at the Christmas Party.

Cheers-

Looks like my fuel line was getting hotter than I thought...

Sold the blingy rims with tires and picked up a set of 5 4Runner wheels for cheap. New tires on, and now have a full size spare as well! 255/80/17s came out to about the same height as the original tires, and a little skinnier. This is a 33x10 according to the online tire size calculators. Maybe I'll get some better fuel economy now! ;)

Installed a Darche 270 awning, and while my old man was visiting 35-40 yrs electrical experience. Tasked him with the install of a CTEK battery management system. Oh and we ran broken arrow and camped up on Schnebly Hill

Last weekend, I began planning my electronic fuel pump wiring harness / diagram and learned that it is best served from a relay along with a oil pressure safety switch. Tried to find an adapter fitting to mount the safety switch into the block and got nowhere fast. Had to buy a brass filler plug and then drill - tap to fit the safety switch.

Cleaned the interior on the 60, including spending an hour to vacuum the headliner. (Can you see the difference?)
Also replaced the sun visors with the 70 series visors.

What is the story on 70 series sun visors? Something available new?
They were. I got the passenger side from CBT and the drivers side from CruiserParts.net. The visors are a direct fit, you just need to swap out the arms. It is less than , and they look great.

Did the first oil change since the engine rebuild in Jan. Approx 2600 miles in 5 months. Didn't burn a drop. Overall it has been a very uneventful shakedown/break-in period. She runs great.

Had a weird rotational squeak coming from the right front when turning hard left. I jacked it up and noticed a slight bit of play in the hub. Bad bearing maybe??? Nope. Turned out to be a damaged spindle. I had Murf and Tom at CBT take care of that for me real quick. Now I'm ready to hit a trail and go camping!!! C'mon rain!

That's great news.
What kind of break in steps and procedures did you follow?

Great info. Looks like a good match too, thanks for sharing. I may have to look into this, mine are showing their age.
