i did this to my 3b-t as well, just makes sense

Buttoned up several weeks worth of work deleting the egr, cleaning up the mess it made, installing gauges, intercooler, 3” exhaust, and some preventative maintenance. It runs like a new truck! I’m still shocked to finally realize how choked out it was when I bought it

Man I'm glad mines pre emissions

Fiddled with my fuel screw on my 1hdt again at lunch. Prepping for an egt gauge install amd then boost gauge and have to figure out the tap in spot for boost.

Took her for a ride around the hood to smog for skeeters.

Before and after I spent days scraping, picking, and walnut blasting this crap out. Not the same port but you get the idea.

I'm impressed, I would have thought the head would have to come apart to get it that clean, I have a walnut blaster but didn't try it on a FT because I thought I might not be able to get all the media back out and you can't really see everything on these ports like you can on most others.

Sad to see this as the turbo is supposedly only about 15,000 miles on it. I will know for sure when I get it out but it looks toast as the impeller and housing are trashed.

Was it a rebuilt turbo?

I am told this is a GTurbo, sure doesn’t look like one to me. The engine is a 12HT, not sure if in the last 5-10yrs GTurbo was using a CT26 housing for their 12HT turbos. They definitely don’t now.

Lots of jerry rigging has gone on with this one, half the hardware is original and half is a mix up from the hardware store. I could go on but not going to.

Cheers

Here is what I will say and I can’t stress this enough to folks who are either not doing their own work or don’t know what they are paying for.

I have seen this a fair amount on Cruisers. Such and such shop which are supposedly great mechanics and do great work, trust worthy ect does such and such work on somebodies Cruiser. That somebody may have even paid tens of thousands of dollars. In reality they (whomever is doing this work) are barely able to pass for backyard hack mechanics.

As a result the Cruiserhead/lover/enthusiast is absolutely ripped off and taken to the cleaners. Meanwhile the hack shop just keeps doing it. Once in awhile these Cruisers end up in a shop like mine and the owners had no clue how bad it is or how much they got ripped off.

Sucks for everyone except the hack shop.

Cheers

I’m proud to say I do ALL my own hack work and I know exactly who to blame when things go wrong
this is the way

Was it a rebuilt turbo?

So yes I found out today it was rebuilt it 2021. I believe what happened was the nut on my finger above that goes on the shaft walked it’s self out and once it was off (loose even), game over. It fell out of the intake pipe right in front of the turbo.

When we tear down a turbo say to get the housing ceramic coated we lock tight that nut on. We have also torn a few brand new turbos down and the nut is also lock tight. This one I see no evidence of any lock tight.

Cheers

Maybe blew my turbo? Lumpy idle and Lots of blue smoke if I go off throttle then come back on. Normal seeming amounts of smoke cruising down a flat road.... just happened. Haven't had a chance to start checking past opening the hood.
