What did a new FJ40 cost in the mid '70s?

IIRC, I have a poster with my 71 FJ40. MSRP $3850. or thereabouts.

in the 60's a 40 was about 3k, by 82 it was almost 12k. I have prices for most years someplace.

Here's one for a 1970 hard top: $3048

Man that hurts ... $3000 AND no rust?? That's the smack!

Seems like there was a web page that had the prices with option prices somewhere. It was like www.birfield.com.

had some good lit. photos to.

holy shiite

I've convinced my wife that I need to buy one, but I told her I wouldn't spend more the $5K. Everything that's $5K and under is a complete bucket 'o rust. It's surprsing how much 40s and appreciated. I shoulda just bought a new one :)... but I was only 8 and it'd be a complete bucket by now.

what you need to do is not look so hard, and you will find one.

If you are in a hurry and look hard, you will find what you want but pay for it. If you know what you want, and do not look hard, it will find you. Took me two different cruisers to figure that out, figured it out on the third one and got a deal.

I bought a 1972 with 20,000 miles on it in july of 1976 for $2400. It was cherry!!

Cost of new FJ40

Paid $6200 for my '78 new at Stevens Creek Toyota. Still have it.

Seem to recall that free oil changes for life was part of the deal that I made. Probably could have made up the $6200 in oil changes by now, but never went in for one (was at sea for most of the first year and moved away the following year).

'69 price

My first Cruiser......... Back before I knew how to deal with car salesmen....
Trashed my trade-in VW through having a girlfriend in PA and another in MS. Burned up some highway miles... and the engine. Only got half what I paid for the VW.

Folks, this was back when they only casually mentioned locking hubs as an add-on.

2 year old 1974 FJ40

I bought my 1974 FJ40 used in 1976 for $3800 and it was a DEAL. I shopped for almost a year. Saw beat up late 60's for around the same price. Best money I ever spent.
