What did a new FJ40 cost in the mid '70s?

So they were holding their value ever since day one? Imagine that!!!!!

Wow.. so I didn't get screwed after all !!! YEAH !!!

I do remember taking it in for routine service after X miles. I had some service calls to make that day (I fixed unit record equip... pre computer stuff for IBM .... 'till I dropped out and became a hippie ;~}..... they gave me a Crown deluxe sedan as a loaner. Man what a nice little car.

My Dad paid $2800 for a new 70' fj40 from a dealer on Guam....I still have & drive it .
all original equip. The body is in much better shape than my 78'..diff steel I think?

I paid $5200 in 80' for my 78' 40...

one of the local toy dealers has a "new"(as in they never sold it) '82 or '83 40. that they use to plow snow and such. sadly it does look like a 22 yrs old cruiser from a salt state, despite being owned by a toyota dealership, with a BODYSHOP on site.

i've spoke to them about it and for 6000 i "could" have it, however besides that the fact i would be the first owner and get the right to boast about buying an '82 new. there's not much much else worth anything on it.

$10K? Why so much? Did you have every available option on there? My invoice was for 6783.50. Paid $6200 (not counting tax and license and all that crap).

I paid $3850 for a new FJ40 in 1972 - right off the lot, price included tax and prep as I recall. It was a hardtp with Warn hubs, which were about the only option I recall. They cut out the centers of the front hub caps to accomodate the hubs. Colorado Tan with usual grey interior. At the time, this was a good deal LESS than a Jeep CJ5.

I ordered a smittybilt roll cage and a set of Gates XT Commando tires, mounted some driving lights and ran it through the Rubicon trail - twice. I had never heard of a locking diff, or any trick suspensions at that time.

I sold it in 1983 for $3200 with 160,000 miles on it.
