Gears going well. Reinstall of pinion kicking my butt a little but I'm figuring it out....thanks @matzell fir answering the call and giving some tips. I got first preload set on bearings, we will see how the pattern and backlash look.

Still waiting on an oil pan gasket to fix what @matzell and I think is the source of a leak, but dug into another project in the meantime. A lot of work for maybe 3/4” of lift, but installed extended shackles on the HJ61 Fri / Sat / today. Added steeper 6 deg (from 2 deg) castor angle shims in the front and shifted the 2 deg shims to the back for pinion angling. The clearance for the front tires seems a lot better and suspension feels better not worse than before (we shall see over time). Will post some leftover parts in the for sale / trade thread — maybe @FamilyCamper or @Land Shark you could use em.

Working on a bunch of small stuff while waiting on the fun big stuff to arrive. Replaced belt trim (no more cut elbows while wheeling), LS400 fancy visor swap (no more saggy visors), replaced broken power antenna with stubby mount, ScanGuage with Solvefunction mount, and new OEM bulbs for the entire dash (which the USPS has apparently lost somewhere in Petersburg)

What is that 15.0 AVG????

What is that 15.0 AVG????
Yup, and a lot of that was running 75mph on 95, 17 and 81. Purrs like a kitten and adequate power running mid-grade turning 33s. 2mpg better average than my GX running premium on 34s. Of course I’m about to lose much of that ‘efficiency’ soon.

One huge advantage I’ve noticed is the 25gal tank. Can get from RVA to central PA on slightly more than half a tank. The GXs and their smaller tanks have you stopping to fill up much more often!

Dug into the oil pan gasket project today. What an absolute P.I.T.A. There’s a cork gasket for this oil pan, but based on some threads here and the FSM it wasn’t necessarily used by Toyota after a shift to just using RTV. Judging by how messy the existing RTV gasket was, I doubt this was the factory seal. It took me ages with a putty knife, a rubber mallet and a torch (after plenty of other creative attempts) to pull it off. The FSM says to remove the sump piping and stiffener plate as well. That was a little easier. Cleaned / sanded / primed / painted the outside of the oil pan, cleaned up the inside, and cleaned up all my gasket surfaces and will hopefully put it all back together tomorrow, let it cure, and fill her back up Tuesday. I need to double check the new gasket against the actual pan, but planning on using it as opposed to RTV only. Cross your fingers for no more leaks!

Made good progress on getting the 100 back together.
Diff back in place and torqued in
Passenger side knuckle and axle back in place and torqued in

All that's left is the driver side axle/knuckle, reinstall front driveshaft, and fill her up with diff oil for a test drive.

Really crossing my fingers on this one. I think I did everything correct but you guys know how it goes....

So did you just take Alan's old diff and install a new bearing kit?

Yes. Worried the Yukon pinion flange seal is already leaking but I can change that without removing the differential thankfully...I did put rtv around the splines but not the seal itself.

Refilled and running. No leaks that I can spot -- yet.

Did you get this back in and running? All good?
