what 2B engine do I have?

Your b series has a 10 timing set so I wonder what the spec is for a 3b?

Here what a 1988 FSM says about the various timings (late-model B and 3B along with 11B and 14B:

InjTiming.webp

It lists the late model B and 3B as being set exactly the same! (The 2B isn't covered in this manual.)

But I'm getting way out of my depth here.

PS. I think the addition of the word "At" in the image is a typo. (Or they perhaps meant to say "At 0 degrees BTDC")

PPS. Just noticed the Orange sticker has a typo! It says BTC instead of BTDC!!!!

haha japanese decals are always full of mistypo's... I like that!!

by the way, tom, then your decal also has a mistypo (see your pic).. :) Thats their old way of saying the same, found out that BTC is also correct after some google search

I thought asking Cruiserparts.net about this matter might also be a good idea... they sell the decals, so they should be able to tell me which one I need... also asked them if these were repros or genuine.. just to clarify that matter. will keep you updated.

best, folkert

Thanks Folkert. (Learn something new every day ... as they say.)

All this has led me to place an order with Cruiserparts for three of their Decals for myself.

At least there is no doubt about which one is correct for my valve cover.

I ordered an antifreeze one too because that one on their site looks very familiar. (Pretty sure it used to sit on my driver's quarterlight window.)

I also asked for an air cleaner decal that is close to my original design (but definitely different from it ... so I'll probably not install it and just keep it as a "spare").

(My original decals are getting a bit tacky.)

Needless to say, I'm disappointed with what I got.......

This is what the website offers (downloaded just a short time ago):

(White background behind the wording.)

And this is what you get:

Delivered.webp
(There was nothing "reflective-chrome" in the site image.)

I won't be fitting that one .... That's for sure..

Edit: All sorted now. A genuine error occurred in shipment and steps have been take to supply me with the correct sticker and to avoid the same thing happening to others. (These people all value quality just as we do.)

tom , why don't you write an email to cruiserparts.net.. ? i'm sure they're not waiting for bad advertising.. and are willing to fix this issue... its strange that the blue B decal seems to be the only one printed on silver... and their bad picture is not telling you clearly it is silver either... if you send your own pic with it, they will see white is correct.

expect my 2B versions soon, let see what that brings :)

I have contacted the vendor to give them the opportunity to correct this "misrepresentation" so hopefully the photo will soon match the product and no-one else will get misled.

Edit: Human error occurred.... This message to the vendor resulted in swift and effective remedial action. So I'm now happy and I think everyone can once-again have confidence in this supplier.

This is my bad as I made a mistake when stocking Cruiser Parts.

When I first reproduced the the "B" the original one I had was chrome. Though chrome is NOT ideal to print on, I did it anyway as I wanted to be correct. Then I got other versions from around the globe B-2B-3B- and so on, they were all white back ground. I now have ones with green, orange and blue font. Not only color, but the timing is different on each color. These will be out in a month or so and will have a clear overlay that is bonded so that oil, grease and fuel will not disturb the ink and colors are much more vibrant.

They "Cruiserparts.net" are representing the correct decal and not misleading, the error was on my part where I packaged or my helper packaged the correct "Part number" but did not know there was an update for white.

As for the chrome Old Stock you got I apologize, can you PM your address and I will be happy to post you another one in white that you were looking for on my dime.

Best,

Shane

Hi Guys,

To ad a little confusion on the yes or no chrome subject.....
When I was cleaning my valve cover some time ago i found leftovers from the old sticker/decal.
I cleaned it up with a putty knife and slivers of chrome came off.
So on my '78 BJ40 (GEN market) there was a chrome sticker for sure.
But now I have the same problem as Folkert. Which one is the right one? The 10' or the 14' BTC ?
I.m going to read this thread back. Maybe the answer is already here.

Careful, postage to NZ is like $500 - thats like the third world down there! :D:D

Anyway,:beer: classy move! Now if only you'd make some 79-84 seat covers in TAN..........

hey shane,

Good to know you are also behind the cruiserpart.net decals... Always understood your decals are high quality products.
As I ordered from cruiserparts, I'm awaiting a package from you with the 2 versions of the 2B decal (and the anti freeze one). :D

Although I will not doubt about the quality of your decals, and will be very happy if they appear the same as in the picture of cruiserparts. I find it strange that I order "Genuine Toyota" decals from them (as stated on their site), while I understand now they are reproductions coming from you...:meh:

No offense to you at all, just fid it a bit "not done" from cruiserparts.net side... Might be a good idea if they change that product description on their site...

No offense taken, I just need to step in and say it was my bad.

So we are all on the same page, Cruiser Parts does in fact have NOS engine decals, they did not have 6 months ago. I had to buy many of them just to touch them. Some I have never seen and some that I reproduce that they found by buying out some places. So, yes they do have NOS stuff. What's funny is that I have "3" decals that are all Toyota, in the bag and same part number and each looks like a crappy copy of the other. Either in color, font and size of font. So this leads me to believe that they had several vendors over the course of model years making them.

Do I think anyone is trying to be dishonest? No, heck I have no idea how he keeps his site organized as I cant keep my house organized.

I am super anal and demand the best from myself and you will get the best. Will they be different from yours? Maybe, but remember they differ side by side. But perfect standing alone.

Hi rudy...
sorry didnt find an answer myself as well.. was hoping time would tell... :D Guess its easier for you to find a manual of your year that mentions the timing, than for me... If there's one it will be all in japanese..

Well, from what you say, the sticker I've received is a perfect match for what you should have on your valve cover then Rudi. So it's now yours (with free postage too) as a reward for all the favours you've done me. .... (I'd put money on your B-engine being 10 degrees - same as mine.)

And I must say I'm impressed by CruisersParts.net and Shane/AATLAS1X. (I never knew Shane was behind some of these stickers.) Both parties have shown here that they have a genuine desire to always supply quality stuff and NEVER to mis-represent what they sell.

nice !!!

@ Folkert; I have a B - 2B FSM with a ton of timing adjustments but no talk of 10' or 14' BTC, or I need new glasses.
The FSM (98260) is for serial# BJ40-013531 and later (which is correct for my truck) and serial# BJ43-001392 and later.
I go for the 10' as Tom said before.

@ Tom; Thanks, PM is on the way.

@ AATLAS1X; Very nice gesture! Good PR! That's how you solve problems.

@ cruiserparts.net: :hhmm: it's quiet in that corner.

CruiserParts.NET contacted their supplier and replied to me immediately upon receipt of my "complaint email" Rudi.

I don't think they need to post anything here as well.

I certainly have the impression that they are genuine in their desire to sell quality decals. Furthermore, I don't think they would ever intentionally misrepresent what they are selling. (And I haven't been paid-off by them to say that.)

I missed your editing in post#24 and #27.
