I went to vacuum out the dirt on my truck. When I lifted the passenger side mat I discovered that the carpet was soaked.

I know it isn't a leaking windshield gasket. I'm in SoCal, it hasn't rained in a long time and I don't wash my truck. I do not think it is the drain for the AC, It still drains out through the firewall and the hose is still attached. It looked like the water was coming down off the transmission hump in the center, behind the stereo. I couldn't see a source of the water. I do not think It's engine coolant either. My coolant level hasn't changed and the water/carpet didn't smell like it. Has anyone come across something like this?

Has your windshield ever been replaced? Sunroof drains clean? Sunroof cable covers warped? One thing you can try is to get down in the footwell with a bright flashlight while someone else lets water run over/on the windshield gasket (only), a section at a time. If no leaks move on to the sunroof and look again for drips of water.

Everything he said above. There is one other potential cause. Have you had your AC worked on? The water drain for the evaporator exits the firewall on the passenger side. If this drip line gets kicked or is damaged, it'll soak the carpet. A quick fix if this is the problem. :bounce:

Set up a hose and test for leaks. Start at the very bottom of the windshield and run it for 10 minutes. If no leaks, slowly move up the A pillar bit by bit allowing the water to run for several minutes at each stop to the sunroof.

I had a leaking windshield that allowed water in at the lower corners. It would pool on the gasket inside the cab and run across the entire width of the windshield and drip behind the dash. This is what will kill the extra A/C control board for auto climate control in CE and 40th anniversary models. It is a very easy leak to overlook as the edge of the windshield gasket is just below the top edge of the dash (at least it is for me).

^^^ describes it exactly how my windshield installer checked for leaks. Nothing was visible until I removed the DS kick panel, then I could see the drips coming down from above. After more searching the installer also found water coming in somewhere in the center of the dash.

The sunroof drains are all connected and draining properly. Once I got the truck I changed everything in the AC system except the condenser and evaporator and the evaporator drain is also connected properly and draining out of the truck, that's the first thing I checked. The windshield was replaced but has sealant applied properly.

The thing is, I live in Los Angeles. It hasn't rained here in over 3 months. My car hasn't gotten wet at all during the summer. No water has touched the windshield or sunroof for months.

Where is the heater core located on an lc? That would be my first thought about any other vehicle but I'm out of town now and don't have access to my rig or manual. Have you noticed a sweet smell like coolant?

i say possible heater core as well. Had a few other vehicles with that problem and that was the tell tale sign with them, not sure if that is same for 80s though

Second on the AC discharge tube. Mine would drain out of the truck but when I pulled the carpet I noticed it drained to the outside as well as inside. I replaced with a new hose that was about half an inch longer and no more wet passenger floor board.

Sorry, I was drunk when I wrote that and thought it had rained recently for you. A/C discharge tube sounds like most likely culprit. Time for some dash work.

Spilled drink?
