I don't think it's the high price of fuel that has popularized the use of turbo diesels - more like AVAILABILITY of kick-butt turbo diesels. They just weren't around in the old V8 vs 3B days.
Plus it sounds like if only gas were cheaper we'd all rather drive gassers - it ain't necessarily so.

Also, Drew talked to the Caribbean with a 100W *HF* radio.

Okay, how about:

Although gasoline powered 40's are still common, the high price of fuel, and the availabilty of "kick-butt" JDM turbo diesel options, has popularized the use of diesel power plants

That wasn't actually my quote, but CAVI is the Canadian Association of Vehicle Importers.
And if you're going to mention CAVI, how about the IVOAC? Do we, as a club, support these organizations? Judging by our vehicles of choice and how many RHDs we have in the club it'd be nice if we did, but maybe not everyone feels the same way?

And if we really believe in these organizations and support what they stand for, do we really care about not ticking off possible dealer sponsors?

OK, that reads way more petulantly than I intended - I'm really just thinking (typing?) out loud here. May be worthy of some discussion though...?

I think we should support IVOAC. If this bothers dealers, well, they are free to import vehicles that we desire.

I'm with Jeff on this. No need to piss in Toyota's cornflakes, they still provide some of the parts we need. Personally I don't think the club should get into things that are political, after all we are just a Toyota Lancruiser club, but if the majoriy support things like that, since many do have JDM's a link should be good enough no?

I support the JDM cause, but I would prefer not to drag the club into it too much, and I think a lot of voices will do more than just one club.
Just thinking.
Cheers,

I don't understand how it can be viewed as 'pissing in Toyota's cornflakes. Most of us are fairly hardcore Toyota fans, to the tune of half a dozen vehicles each in many cases. I think it is fair to say that if Toyota brought in their many models of turbo-diesels, many of us would own one or two. If this were the case, I suspect that there wouldn't be much of a market for 15 year old RHD imports from Japan.

My humble opinon, of course.

I totally aggree with you, If they sold brand new HZJ79's, I would buy it strait off the lot, this minute. (And I'm not kidding, I would trade in my Dodge in a heartbeat)

As for this:
I don't understand how it can be viewed as 'pissing in Toyota's cornflakes.

I know many of the JDM guys have been complaining that a lot of the dealerships give them grief when trying to order parts for them, and I am pretty sure Toyota Canada isn't too happy about the JDM situation. I just don't want Toyota (after they see our support of the import guys on our main page of the website) to tell all their dealerships to take our discount away. I just don't want to stir the pot, that's all.

I could be wrong, though, as my dad raised me to watch out for conspiricies and never trust the government:D

I'll piss in anyone's cornflakes, but it's not about me. We just need to keep the above written text relatively short, it is suppose to be a somewhat brief introduction and summary of our club.
Any extraneous information, such as club affiliations should be elsewhere.
I only kept the TLCA reference because I feel it's an important part of our club, being a TLCA chapter.
Having now said this, the 4WDABC reference should be moved to the links page, as we are as fickle as the wind blowing out my ass and next year we could possibly vote to not rejoin.

I am okay with leaving any affiliation off the front page for now. As for pissing on Toyota, if anyone is pissing on Toyota it is the corporation not the vehicles. Well, okay I admit it, I have thought about pissing on my wife's Tercel. :grinpimp:

As for politics, in this era it is going to be pretty hard to stay out of politics. The members may not want to be linked with IVOAC but that is up to a club vote if it is an issue. Everyone knows how I would vote on that one. :D

I think it would be very self centred not to participate in and support 4WDABC. They are the only ones who are trying to ensure 4x4 access with the governement. With all the other special interest groups out there, there is a good chance we would loose access to many favorite trails and areas. Any 4x4 club in BC should be standing up to the plate and getting as political as needed.

Grills Grills Grills

I like the idea for having a very short intro with a front grill of a 40-60-70-80- and then back to a 40 with the logo designed around the grill of a 40.

Sooooo to do this I will need photos of grills for each model. Pending the size of some of the pics already sent in I can crop the grills out but some big, high resolution, close-up, front-on shots of grills would be great to have.

Homework: Please send pics of your grills. My 42 is stock so a 42 with ARB and PTO etc would be really nice...then a repeat for the remaining model years.

The intent is to have a series of grills for a 3-5 second intro photo series.

I must say that I am impressed with several of the photos I have aready received from the club members. Very nice pics.

Keep the pics and ideas flowing.

James

Guys, I just had an idea. Since we are changing the logo and will need to update the stickers as well, why not do something cool and original. I was thinking along the lines of a band-aid sticker with the club name. That way you can put it on your truck over the custom trail damage. Have it look like a band aid with the color and the little holes and Coastal Cruisers as a label on it. Any thoughts?

How's the planning and ideas on the website going? I have not seen any updates recently. Need more pics? any other info?
