Garry has always offered us the space, maybe we could entice him to be webmaster? Maybe even for a reasonable fee. If someone could build a website, it could be uploaded to Garry's server, of course, whoever builds the website should probably be webmaster, again, maybe for a fee. I'd love to hear some feedback from Garry.

Hey guys,

I tried my hardest to get this done but the supply of labour dictates the cost. In my biz labour in Vancouver is extremely tight these days and web development is seen as "a waste of time" by most experienced developers. I had a junior developer give a go at it for next to no $ but the result was not acceptable to me. I couldnt' find a developer to do it for less than $3000 and I was turned down several times for suggesting anything less than $3000. In the end I found a great developer willing to do it for 50% of his normal rate but even that was pricy for a non-profit club. I really thought I could pull this one off but in the end it was either cheap with a poor end product or really pro for $3000 (50% already reduced), I couldn't find middle ground.

In the end the club has found their own middle ground with a local developer that I couldn't find and that is GREAT! My time is limited so this works very well for me.

I have a GMAIL account set up for the club with all the photos collected in December. Please let me know who is taking on the web build and I will send over the account details so they can have access to all the spectacular images.

Best of luck & I hope to make it out to a meeting on of these days and actually get out on the trails.

Cheers,

James

I spoke with Allan today, he is going to start on the website next week. As soon as he has the "skeleton" I will start a new thread on it with comments and changes to be made to it.

Hosting

It's important the web designer knows the server is windows 2003 server.

As far as being a webmaster, I work a minimum of 50 hours a week at one job, and run a photography company with all that free time left over. My philosophy has always been to make sure the tools are there (server platform, web management) and to help out when I have a chunk of time. Regular updates (Webmasters Roll) are not something you would want me to commit to, I would not be able to do anything in a timely fashion.

hey guys..
I only read through the above posts quickly but I didnt see anything definitive on where you are going to host this bad-boy. I'd be willing to host it for free on my server at Rackforce.. The server runs the usual Linux hosting services with CPanel nightly backups, and all that jazz. I already host a few production websites there and will eventually move the ivoac.ca site over there.. anyway, just throwing it out there in case you are persuing the 'server in someone's basement' route :)

I wish I could offer my development services but I just don't have time (ask GB and crushers about that!) but can definately hook you up with someone who is well below the quotes I saw above..

Anyway, just trying to help out.. cheers
Daryl

[I just read the other website post and it looks like the content has been taken care of.. I'm more than willing to host it if the other options don't pan out..]
