have the opportunity to buy 2 winches. The first is an older Warn Model 6000, does not work, missing parts, including the motor. Price is $50. The second appears to be more complete, though the seller is unsure if it works as taken from salvage. It is a Warn Model 5687, the price is $250. Here is the question, if I bought both, is there any way parts may be compatible between the 2? Thoughts appreciated on which one(s) to buy.

I wouldn't buy either. I think most folks run the big harbor china winch for intermittent electric use. I like pto's or hydraulic for extended use.

The Model 6000 and 5687 (Belleview) are predecessors of the venerable Warn 8274. The Belleview is a good winch, just not a two-way winch, and it has a manual brake. Not sure about swapping parts between the two winches, but they probably do share some parts. That being said, I would not put either of these winches back to work in difficult recovery situations. They do look great as eye candy on a vintage truck, and it would be worth the money to pick them both up for $300 for that reason.
