the 1984 SR5 pickup I just bought came with WARN locking hubs. I am trying to decide whether to just by a rebuild kit for them or replace them with AISIN hubs.
What are the advantages/disadvanteges of warn vs aisin
I wouldn't say NEVER, but I do think the Aisins are much better. I have seen several Warns gernade, but never an Aisen, yet. I have personally sheared off a Longfield inner axle without damage to the Aisin. John
The hub body on a Warn is aluminum while on an Aisin, it's steel. That is the biggest strength difference. Which is better for you to use? I would say it depends on how you are going to use the truck!
Aisin all the way. You can find them on e-bay, a junk yard, or Craig's list when people part out a truck or do a SAS swap and don't need the IFS stuff. They are spend new but if you look around you should be able to find some for a reasonable price.
If you are just keeping it stock and not wheeling it hard these may be OK to keep but if they are shot and need rebuilt, then I would just replace them with Aisin hubs.

That sucks! When did Warn start doing that? They used to be steel (- at least back in the 20th century ) What is their thinking, using aluminum on a high stress component in a drive train? I'd like to see the design rational and understand their motives.
I think it also has to do with keeping your hub bolts tight. I've seen that happen on both Warn and Aisin. The Aisin's just sheered the studs and dowels, the Warn broke apart (probably because of the aluminum casting).
If you need to design a good weak link into your system to avoid breaking birfield joints the Warn hubs may be just the ticket. Just carry a couple sets with you.
I might be mistaken here so someone correct me if I a wrong but I think the pickup hubs are 26 or 28 spline (cant remember exactly) and the landcruiser ones are 30 spline.
So just make sure you get ones that will fit your application.
