Looking to put a winch in the ARB I just bought. Was looking at the M12000, M15000 or the M16.5.

The asking prices of a new or used 16.5ti seemed to be always be listed higher than I wanted to pay for a used winch.

M12000 were going for $800 for a clapped out one to $1500 for ones that were in nicer shape.

I came across a Kijiji ad for an M15000 and Superwinch of unknown rating for $600 for both. Decided to drive out to Conrich and have a look.

They weren't in the best shape but the M15000 seemed like a good base to start a rebuild. I offered $200 CAD and drove away with the winch. He threw in some 3/8" cable of unknown length. I didn't need it but he said to take it so I did.

I knew it was missing parts but Warn had them all available and they are on order. I will put up the list in another post.

For now this is just the starting pics of the teardown. I'll go in to further detail as I go along.

Nice find. I found a $200 M12000 a couple years ago and all it needed was two new solenoids, which came in a bucket with the sale. So fun finding good deals.

Black coating is a primer/sealer. Ended up using a SEM bumper coating. Dark Titanium. I little bit darker than the original WARN colour. I'm happy with it. I'm not sure how much will be visible when in the ARB. Could have sprayed it bright yellow and told everyone it's a Sherpa.
