The placard on my '78 FJ40 says it weighs 4885 lbs with the hardtop on. Older Toyota literature on the '78 listed it as weighing 3800 lbs as per one of wscbill's posts. So what do our rigs weigh??

If you really want to know how much your rig weighs, take it to a scale and have it weighed. Stock curb weight is with 28" tires, no extra armor (sliders, rear bumper, etc), no winch, no hi-lift jack, no camping gear, no recovery gear, no 40 years of crud built up in the frame rails, no .22 shells rolling around in the nooks and crannies, etc. Once you add all that up, you'll add another 1000 lbs easy. I think the last time I weighed my 40, it was right around 4800 lbs. Stuff adds up quick!

Geez, they are much more substantial rigs than Jeeps. Is the weight another reason why they perform better on off-cambers than the Jeeps?

4600 lbs +/-

Balanced side to side with half a tank of gas. Front end is about 250 lbs lighter than the rear with the hardtop on... Topless, close to balanced front to back.

Never owned a heep, but a fullsized blazer with a Limited slip couldn't follow it... and a full sized Bronco blew its rear diff trying. And I've still only got open diffs... And only had AT tires. :D

Zebranator, trail ready with Swampers, 8274, blah blah, no top or doors. 4660lb with my little but in it.

(Wow, I hadn't thought of that number in YEARS!)

Gotta weigh mine..............cool!

3820 lbs. 1971 stock other than a 2f engine and aftermarket rollbar. Hard top and doors on, spare tire, missing one rear bench seat, no people, dogs or other stuff - ok, maybe a few .22 shells.

Weighed mine in at my buddy's rock quarry. 4600 pounds with me, my dog, and my duck hunting junk. 33 tires and the hardtop also
Your 4600 lbs. sounds about right with your extra weight. Back in the day (during 1970's) we use to say an empty hard top FJ40 weighed about 4400 lbs., and a soft top about 400 lbs. less. Only old army jeeps and Landcruisers have a hot riveted frame, they flex with the terrain/roll with the punches--- that's why early Broncos and Blazers were rated at a 4 year life expectancy and old army jeeps and FJ40's were rated at a 12 year life expectancy. With that said, we all know any of those vehicles last much longer than those life expectancies????? I once talked to a forestry worker who was supplied only a government Blazer or Bronco, he chose to use his own Landcruiser for his work, guaranteed to get him home each night?????
