What's up Scott..Hopefully Matt gets things going soon I'm ready for him to finsh the last bit of wiring and start a wvo conversion.. I've been running Blue Sun B100 @ $3.45 a gallon.. Fawkin Crazy!!

gnx7- I have only run about a half tank of B100 and seem to be getting mid
20's Mpg... I will know better when the tank is fully empty..Yes, I do have the speedo and odometer working and also a ratio adapter to compensate for the
35" tires.

Great job guy. Its great to see these kind of things happening. My question is how is the in cab noise while driving? Im not asking for prices, but are you comprible with Proffits conversions?

Probably a little less and without the 18 month waiting list.

I wonder what would be less money, an auto or a manual? Id way prefer a manual to an auto. 18 months. Wow. How easy is it get a low mile 4bt?

I actually prefer the manual. All the A/T that bolt up are 3spds. The 700R4 isn't cheap, but its the best option on the 80s since you do need an OD for freeway speeds. The 60s can go NV4500 a lot easier since the manual was already there. Best bet would be an Atlas or D300 behind it as well.

A 4L80e bolts up to the GM adapter found on some 4bt's. It's an overdrive, stronger than the 700r4, but not cheap!

True, but its computer controlled though.

How did you go about setting it up to work correctly?

I just installed a full manual kit (trans-go 4L80e-3) last week but I'm still in project mode so it's not on the road. I'm documenting here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=160807&page=3

A stand alone computer would have been nice but too pricey. I haven't read much about the full manual kit so I thought I'd take the plunge and be the test subject.

You have to buy a stand alone computer for the 4L80E. They are not cheap, a little over $1G but you can dial in exactly where you want your shift points to be.

As far as manual vs auto, it's really up to you. You can go from a manual to an auto or vice-versa, even in an 80 series (although it is difficult).

The NV4500 is a great transmission but it is quite truck like and not for everybody. I prefer the H55F to the NV4500. If I were to do a manual tranny behind a 4BT for myself, I would go with the H55F or........maybe the NV5600, just because of the coolness factor.

The in cab noise is minimal with the windows up cruisin down the road at 40mph it's no louder than a V8. When you take off from a stop it's got a little more noise but settles down nicely..I have the idle bumped to about 900rpm which seems to quiet and smooth out the idle..The only noise I have right now is coming from the tranny and tcase shifter holes..I need to fill all the unused holes with some soundproofing and get some new shifter boots too. That should make a world of difference with the tranny hum.. I think Proffits cruisers might be your only choice right now, because Matt at bpcenters will be focusing most of his time on WVO conversions and WVO delivery service up and down the frontrange..If you ask me it's worth the 18 month wait for Proffits they have done alot of these trucks and know these motors well. If you are competent enough to do it yourself www.4btswaps.com is a great resource for putting the cummins 4bt into anything...

Is the only additional soundproofing that you did on the firewall? Did you put any inside (besides the shifter holes) or is it all factory? I just ordered some stuff from secondskinaudio.com to try out, since I'm getting rid of my carpet I think I'll be wanting something.

again very nice install what about life of engine?

Curios as to the life the engine will go untill another major rebuild? Are the parts for this truck common and still produced from dodge?

They are actually very common parts from Cummins themselves. Great thing about Cummins is that all you have to do is call them up and give them the serial number on the motor or part you need replaced and they take it from there.

Motor should go 200K more with general maintenance.

So was the tranny problem due to pre-installed issues in the tranny or from the motor? I forgot what he said. Are you guys still doing tag-team installs or who should I contact for the install on mine. Also, what hp/mpg did he end with?

Output shaft on tranny wasn't cut down per spec. That fixed all of it.

At this point Matt is concentrating on SVO conversions and stuff. I can do it, but how fast are you thinking about getting it done. I am working out of my garage right now.

Does Matt still have that engine I put the $100 on? In terms of dates.....like we talked....spring drop off? Then we figure out how much time you would need?

I'm pretty sure he does at the new shop. I haven't been up there though.

Glad to see it got done. You mention it's quite? Wouldn't it be the same sound roughly as the other truck in the shop or just never heard one run before?

We found that the tentioner on the other rig was way too loose and basically worn out. We ordered a new one for that rig and it also quieted down substantially.

When we fired Jay's up for the first time, he didn't even have exhaust. Just a down pipe I had welded in that was about 12" long. I later welded in a straight pipe that kicked out the side just behind the passenger door, but never heard it after that. Jay did mention that it was not bad at all with the straight pipe added. IMHO, I see no reason to run a muffler at all. It robs power, and does little on a diesel to quiet things down.
