Afternoon, everyone!

I’m having a little trouble figuring out where the vacuum hoses are supposed to go on this component. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I accidentally invent a new vacuum system. 😂

Quick storyline on this FJ60: About four years ago, it came to me with a seized engine. After roughly four years of trials, tribulations, cussing, and questionable life choices, I finally managed to get the engine put back together last week.

Turned the key—engine cranked, but absolutely no fuel. Of course. Why would it be that easy?

After some troubleshooting, I found a collapsed fuel line coming out of the fuel tank. Dropped the tank, cleaned everything up, replaced all the fuel lines, and finally got the fuel issue squared away.

Now the engine starts and runs! It even idles pretty decent, which honestly feels like a major victory at this point. 😂

I hooked up a vacuum gauge and I’m pulling about 15.5 inHg at the intake manifold. The carburetor float window is showing a little less than half full while the engine is idling, so I may need to have the carburetor rebuilt.

BUT FIRST…

I need to figure out where the heck these vacuum lines are supposed to go. 🤣

If anyone has an FJ60 with this setup, or knows where these vacuum hoses are supposed to be routed, I’d really appreciate some guidance.
At this point, I’ve already brought the engine back from the dead. I’d like to avoid sending the vacuum system to the graveyard too. 😂

Thanks in advance!

The is an emissions diagram that’s available in resources, should help.

Also,
Has it been desmogged?

If not, definitely need to look at emissions manual. If it has, depending on the demos, might not need it.

Search for desmogged fj60 and you should be able to get the correct thread. Will have a diagram there too.

You can adjust the float height to get the fuel level correct in the window. It’s in the FSM.
No need to “have the carb rebuilt” for that.

This truck still has all the factory emissions set up. I wish I could just take all the Smog equipment off, but unfortunately, I live in California where I have to keep all this stuff on I think I may have found it on the FSM

I don’t think that’s it…..
Look for the one on the passenger side.
I believe it’s supposed to go to the breather and a nipple on the distributor to vent it.

How about some more pics of everything else. If this is disconnected there's probably more that needs to be fixed.
I have a fully smogged 60 in CA if you need some pics

As above, that's for the distributor venting. That 2F Emissions manual will become your bible living in California - like us here on the Front Range of Colorado. Spend your nights reading that thing! Once you divide up all the smog equipment into separate systems like how they're categorized in the manual, it's much easier to understand what's going on.

The screenshot of the manual drawing and the valve you circled: that's an identical valve but it's on the opposite side of the engine bay. It deals with the charcoal canister/evap system. That type of vac valve - meaning both in your engine bay - are 99% certain to be bad and leaking vacuum. I've never found a good one and I've tested a lot of them ... and they're discontinued to boot. The 80 Series uses essentially the same valve - except it's black & blue - and that'll work fine for replacing those. One vac nipple is on the opposite side but it works exactly the same. It's a Toyota part but I get them from City Racer since they're cheaper than what my dealership sells them for. Scroll through on the CR website and you'll see them.

Congrats on getting the truck moving under its own power too! If you're in the LA area and end up needing help, @RodrigzCrzr is really, really good with 60s and runs a small shop in the city.

Do you guys happen to know what size vacuum lines does the fj60 use ?

Definitely get the metric sizes listed above. SAE sizes might kinda sorta work, but the fit on metric hoses is perfect. Just order from Toyota, you can get it in various lengths. Belmetric is another supplier that has good metric hose (and JIS bolts too).

Quick update on the FJ60 saga! 😂

Went down to the parts store and picked up some vacuum line, and thanks to you guys, I was actually able to route all the vacuum lines correctly without setting the truck on fire—which I consider a win at this point. Fired the thing up and she started right up and settled into an idle, although the RPM is a little high, sitting just above 1,000. Then I started hearing something that sounded suspiciously like a vacuum leak, because apparently this truck has decided it needs to breathe through every hole except the ones it’s supposed to. 😂 Started poking around and found two vacuum temperature bypass thingamajigs underneath the thermostat housing. They were both snapped, so I looped the two vacuum lines together just to see what would happen. The engine runs and idles, but every now and then it gives me a little stumble just to remind me who’s in charge.

So naturally, I started chasing another rabbit down the vacuum-leak hole and decided to check the vacuum advance diaphragms on the distributor. Neither one of them will hold vacuum. 😳 Now I’m starting to think I may have a vacuum leak through the distributor advance diaphragms.

At this point, I’m about three vacuum hoses away from needing a therapist. 😂 Anybody have any suggestions on what I should check next before this FJ60 convinces me to sell it and take up gardening?
