SORRY but what actually happend. I was intrested to see if there was a happy ending ....pics....vids....?????:crybaby:

I somewhat stopped on the conversion to work on my rear bumper. It is almost complete. The engine is running perfect. I am installing a programmable aftermarket transmission control and 5.29 axle gears. I also need to change out the power steering pump for a ram assist system. There 2 a/c lines I need to complete too. Then it will all be tuned in and I can thump it.

Sidetrack.....Just test mounted up my new wheels and tires. 39.5" tsl swampers. When combined with the V8 power I am going to put those LongFields to the test.

This sounds like a very cool project, and one I would duplicate if I ever had the need for a new powerplant. I don't think I would pick a Vette motor tho.....

The new Vortec Max 6000 engine sounds like a winner, and since it will be appearing in many new Silverado pickups, there should be plenty of them available used in a few years. Or you could buy a crate motor from the dealer:

Vortec Max 6000 V8

* Thundering 345 horsepower @ 5200 rpm
* HEMI-beating 380 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4000 rpm(1)
* 10,000 lbs. of towing capacity(1) — the most towing capacity of any half-ton pickup on the road(1)

Vortec Max V8 Engine Features:

* More horsepower than Ford, Toyota, and Nissan half-ton pickups(2)
* More torque and trailering capacity than a Dodge HEMI(2)
* Vortec Max Performance Pack(3) includes Ride Control Suspension, a 9.5-inch axle, automatic locking rear differential, and a Heavy-Duty Trailering Package.
* Deep inside the combustion chamber of Vortec engines, a ferocious vortex is created to generate a better fuel-to-air mixture.
* A high-capacity cast-iron crankshaft with undercut and rolled fillets. And to help reduce stress, the crankshaft is internally balanced.
* High-flow cast-aluminum cylinder heads that feature a low-friction roller-rocker valvetrain
* Electronic Throttle Control to help achieve optimum vehicle performance and efficiency
* A Powertrain Control Module that continuously measures input to achieve optimized engine performance and smooth transmission shifts
* Coil-near-plug ignition system for a precise delivery of high-energy spark

1. When included in the Vortec Max Performance Pack.
2. Based on 2005 competitive information.
3. Available on select Half-Ton LT models.

I especially like the bit about the "Ferocious Vortex"! They should fire that ad writer!

I have this exact swap in mind with a NV4500 tranny. Things I have aquired so far are; a 2005 6.0L LQ4 engine (400 mi); 2- GM NV4500 transmissions 1993,\; my 73 FJ40 and a heck of a shopping list. The way things look this is not going to be inexpensive... will take about $1500 to $2000 in adapters alone. :eek:

Doesnt the new 5.7l toyota engine produce something like 375hp/401lbft? Wouldnt that make it the most powerful 1/2 ton pickup? lol just commenting on the add ^^^ up there.

Rubbing? Trimming? Bump stop extending? Looks sick though.

There is major rubbing in the front fenders. The front wells will be opened on about 2.5-3 inch radius. the back is opened a bunch already through my new bumper. I will be opening it up about 1 inch around, as far as the wells permit. Hopefully I will not need the bumpstops.

OK, it has been said several times but Wholly Shxx! This thread is very very cool. The specific details, pics, results etc are great. My thanks to all that contributed. I would love to do this swap. Kirk, Great Job!:cheers: You're rig looks very cool. I will be interested to see how long the axles hold up.

how far are you thinking of moving your rear axle back? move gas tank and go beef up four link?

I like the way you think, looking good.

I just skimmed through this thread and i think you convinced me that I "need" a V8!!!

This sounds like the route I would take but, in a 60 or 80.

PS- I know I have a V8 in the LX, but that is going to be the wifes rig :princess:

Any updates Kirk?

Nothing much new. My business keeps me from my hobbies. I am currently finishing the widening of the fenderwells and the rear bumper. Check out my "high clearance bumper" thread. that has most of my progress as of late. What I plan to do next is regear to 5.29's( already bough about 8 mos ago) and tune the transmission controller to the new combo of the 39.5's and 5.29's

Regards

Kirk

Have spent some time doing road testing the last few weeks and I feel the stock radiator is not going to cut it. I am pursuing a Ron Davis/ Man a Fre alum radiator. I have also developed a plan to replace the stock fuel pump. going to retro a corvette model.

Other than that I know have someone helping me restore the underside of the vehicle. The truck will be on the lift for a few months and I am going to reman both axles including sandblasting the housings. Then I will finally get the regearing done to 5.29's. After this the transmission electronics can be tuned to the new gears and 39.5" tires.

Redoing the underside to combat rust, and reworking axles. Hope to primer and paint this week. then off to scorpion to get the wheel wells and body coated.

Lookin good! Haven't you already cut the front fenders?

Thats what I thought. Didn't know if I was "loosin' it" again. Happens when you get old.
