For anyone wondering what parts are needed and at what cost, here ya go. I wish I could have found a list like this when I was researching and buying parts. Maybe someone will find it useful. I'm happy to send the actual Excel sheet if you PM me.

*After reviewing @saucebox parts list, I added a few more items and $$$ to my list.

Sorry 🤣

Things are now in motion that can't be undone...

I was able to remove all of the IFS components today, with exception of the steering rack. No need to remove the rack until I cut off its crossmember support. Tomorrow will be a full day of cutting and grinding.

Awesome. I wonder if this is the first SAS swap on a 100 in North Carolina. See you Sunday!

Do you NEED the upgraded steering box or would any 80 box work?

Did you have to get a specific P/N for the manual front hubs? Or do 60/62 hubs works?

Ready to see this!
I'm not sure if 60/62 hubs will work. The ones I ordered work on the 70 series and 105.

You can get by w/ a factory 80 box. The 105 had a beefier sector shaft and pitman arm. Redhead offers the upgraded components as an option. I don't know the history of the 80 box I sourced, so figured now is the time to upgrade.

@Mbaxter put one on tons & 37's. He's somewhere in NC. Concord maybe?

You need to upgrade the sector shaft if you are running 37's or larger OR if you beat on your truck with 35's. People still bend, break and twist 105 shafts, so upgrading the smaller 80 sector shaft is a must IMO.

The hubs are aisin FHT-001, they can be a pain to find. The 100 series hubs use larger hubs studs, larger dowels and a larger bolt pattern. 60/62/80's all use the mini truck hubs in a few different body lengths, so those don't work. They all use the same inner and outer hub gears though, so you can buy chromoly hub gears from RCV.

Thanks.

Further reinforcement of my plan to just import a 105....with hopes of a manual trans.
Have you seen how much those things are selling for in Australia? A good one is close to $30k. Just wait until they are legal to import to the US. Add on import costs and its way cheaper to SAS. Maybe not easier, but cheaper.

The prices are insane all over the globe. I want a 100 series with a 5 manual transmission with V8 or turbo diesel and rear ac. I use to be hung up on VSC and ATRAC and no longer care. I just want a manual 100 series. The conversion is like 15k with Toyota parts.

I can't wait to see this conversion on Sunday. So cool.

A buddy of mine bought a new 105 steering box in Oman and used it on his 80. Worked well but seems that the 105 has greater angular travel than the stock 80 box.

I'm curious, with this project as you currently see it, what will be the differences, if any between your rig and a factory 105? I'm quite interested in how this all works out.

I didn't put the new 105 pitman arm next to the old one. I'll have to do that next time I'm with the truck. The 105 sector shaft and pitman arm is a common upgrade on 80 boxes here in the states, so I can't imagine the angle is that different.

Without having access to a 105 here, it's hard to make a clear assessment. Most of what I know about the 105 has been 2nd hand on this forum, so hard to tell what's accurate or not. I have mostly been relying on SAS build threads and a couple of guys that have already done this swap, for reliable info. @saucebox @peacesells63 have both been great resources.

Factory-installed V8?

Factory-installed V8?
I thought I read somewhere a 105 is 80 series chassis with a 100 series body.

Factory installed V8 is nice for sure.

That might be true in spirit, but there is some nuance. I believe the frame at the front is different, the axles are wider, gearing is probably different, etc.
