New to the forum, second post. I have been reading about upgrading the speakers and sound on the LC/LX. It seems that almost all of the post for the upgrades use an upgraded amp? and some sized speakers are different 6.5 vs 6.75. I am not an audiophile and really just want to upgrade all of the speakers as the stock speakers seem pretty lame and possibly one or two might be blown. Is there a problem with just upgrading the speakers and not the amplifier. 2005. The subwoofer looks to be a 6"? and the doors 6.75? Only want to spend a couple hundred bucks total. Thanks

I believe it can be done. I'm planning the same thing and am going to use these as the price seems right and my audiophile coworker agrees that they will be good speakers for the money:

Rear: http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Reference-6032cf-6-5-Inch-High-Performance/dp/B002BZFSYA/?tag=ihco-20

@Arya Ebrahimi used them as well. See his thread here: Replaced the speakers in our '03 100. Write-up including sub replacement

I did amps, one for the speakers and one for the sub, plus a 12" sub. The amps and sub are always in the way, and I don't listen to music loud anymore. If I could do it over I would simplify and do something like what @yotasavg recommends. For less than $200 you can make the stock system sound 2x better and it's a clean easy diy install.

I did the same as @chrisratz and got two separate amps, one to power the door speakers and another to power a 10" sub in a shallow box (I also have a touchscreen receiver and bass control knob but that's not relevant here). The speaker amp is tucked right next to the factory one under the pass. seat and the sub amp is hidden in the rear behind the trim where the stock sub enclosure used to be. I wouldn't recommend upgrading the entire sound system if you are on a budget (which it seems like you are so I'm sorry that I am not very helpful here) but this is my speaker setup for reference:

Front Door Speakers/Tweeters:

Rear Door Speakers:

Can the above referenced builds be used on a 2000?

So I'm assuming that the factory speakers and amp are 2 Ohm, since the above Amazon links point to 2 Ohm Infinity speakers.

Is this correct, or do they use the more common 4 Ohm?

Just swap the new speakers in, I'd use Crutchfield to make sure they'll fit. All that said, powering the speakers correctly will likely gain you the results you are looking for. Power= clarity at louder volumes (and quieter volumes as well).

Grab a set of Alpine or Polk Audio and pop them in.

Good deal for the price. I replaced speakers and radio, but not sub. I'm getting hissing sound. I wonder if it's the amp?

Have you pulled the sub to look at it? Sometimes as the driver fabric disintegrates it will hiss vs crackle. My sub and front speakers cones were literally dust, nothing there. What was there crumbled when you touched it. My view on the sub was to get it reconed then see how it went. No hiss or anything once i put it back in so I left the amp and it has been fine..

costal, which speakers did you use? I am gonna do this weekend? How long did it take you? And which instructions did you use to remove the door panels. The only one I can find is for the LX. Thanks

My link from the install is here
What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

I have embedded links to those post I used for wiring, panel removal and bracket modifications. I also have the link to Crutchfield for the speakers in there ...

Easy job first panel and bracket mods took 1 hour second panel and mods took 20 mins...

Thanks costal, im new so im learnin how to get around the site. Looking forward to doing this project Sunday before football

No problem. Read thru the links. A lot of folks put a ton of step by step info in those links that made it easy for me to knock it our easily in my '03

When removing the panel the bezel around the release handle is the trickiest part. I read thru the replies and post #16 by @marcfj60 is what clued me in to how to pop the tab

I have not pulled the sub yet. I'm getting the hiss from all speakers.
