Dang, that's not good news. I put my center caps from the 16's on there without issues, except it doesn't give enough clearance to get a socket on the lugs, which means taking off the caps every time I take the wheels off. So I ordered Tundra caps on eBay and now you're saying they won't fit. I should've ordered 18" LC caps.…

Ok, you guys are right. The front's definitely don't fit (rears do, though). Well, guess I'll sell them on Tundrasolutions and pick up another set of LC caps.

If you put spacers behind the wheels, then the hub won't hit the caps and they will fit...

That's ezzzactly what I'm hoping for, rims even with wells! I understand the technical downside to spacers, but I really don't like the railcar look. Are they hub-centric spacers or did you buy rings?

Is the Mud seller still stocking them?

Here's what the OEM 2006 18" LC wheels look like in relation to the fender wells. The OEM 16" Wheels on my 2000 looked like they were tucked 2+ inches inside the wells, and the flares made it looke even worse. I hated the way that looked - like a 78 Chevy truck or something.

wow i'm really surprised nobody said about the size of the rim; 18 will give you more stability when there is a blow out.

digging up an old thread here because I need a little help with spacers. I'm buying the Tundra 18 alloys for my 99 LC and will go with a 275/75/18 AT tire. My question is about spacers. Can anyone help with a link to which ones to buy? Or perhaps someone can give me to correct spacer size?

I'd hate to get new wheels and tires to the shop only to find out I have to wait another week for spacers to ship. Thanks!

Why do you want wheel spacers?

maybe I'm completely confused, but my understanding is that I will need spacer in order for the tundra 18s to fit with the flush center caps. Post 23 of this thread illustrates the wheel look I am after.

Why not drill a small hole in the center of the cap to clear grease caps on the front end instead of running spacers? Someone here has done it and it looked really good. Just use a small holesaw bit.

Griffin,

I have a pair of inch and 1/4 spacers that i used for a month that i have for sale. I paid $169.99 plus tax and shipping and will sell them for $140 shipped. they are ready to go.

Dan, did you run the spacers on 18s? Any performance issues? I've now read that spacers may not be advisable....guess it has to do with alignment/balance issues? :bang:

Totally confused here, and I'd be more than happy to run the 18s after drilling holes in the center caps - uhhhg - or just leaving the center caps off all together, but my LC is my everyday ride. I need my truck to comfortably navigate offroading a few times a year only, while not looking like something I can crawl Moab with.....that build is for a distant future.

Only need spacers with Tundra RockWarrior rims. All others bolt up with nothing needed. Just remember, steel rims need a different type of lug nut. Your aluminum lugs won't hold.

If the center cap isn't a big deal to you then you can run the Tundra 18" alloy and your tire combo without spacers/adapters. I run a 10mm spacer to allow adequate clearance for my 285/75 18" GY MT/R on Tundra alloys when using recovery chains (about once or twice per year it seems) and to get some of the track width back that is lost from raising the front suspension ~2.5-2.75".

Regarding the safety aspect of running wheel adapters: There are as many opinions about this subject as anything else here...;)...but IMO given quality adapters, proper installation and re-torqueing schedule for the adapters themselves (until such time the torque remains consistent...usually 2X sequence) are fine. My biggest gripe with the 1" wheel spacer adapters I ran was the steering scrub effect on tight off-road turns/switchbacks, increased turning radius on same and the tire to fender lip interference at full/near full compression.

FYI: I've had my 10mm wheel spacers on now for almost 2-years without issue.

This was a big factor for me as well. My choice was a 33" tire and 18" rim with the same 70 series sidewall as a stock tire has.

You've gotta stand to reason... Stock tire size for the 16" rims is 275/70/16. I upgraded my 99 LX to 275/70/18 (about 2" bigger). I went with E rated Duratracs. They are definitely stiffer sidewalls so airing down is no issue, and you still get the handling benefits while on road. My bro has 285/75/16 on his truck, and the turn in is a bit crisper with the 70 series tires.

Again, this is the stock (slightly higher than stock) sidewall height so offroad use has not really been an issue at all.

Griffin,

I ran these on 17 in Rock warrior wheels. I am still running them in 1 inch front and rear. The 1 inch works better for the specific back spacing on the RW wheel. Anyone concerned about running "quality" wheel spacers shouldn't. The work very well on our hundys and you don't notice any ill effects. I would run them even if i didn't need them for my RW wheels. I had them on when i was running fact 16's and loved the look and the extra stability of the wider track. No more railcar look. I used a little blue locktite and torqued them to 90lbs on my torque wrench and all is well.

thanks for the help, I'm comfortable now with plopping down the moolah.

Shipping and install will take me a week or so, after which time I'll post some pics of my new shoes. :D
