Hello all. I picked up a orig owner 1978 FJ40 on Friday and it came with these garaged since almost new wheels and factory original Dunlop Snow Cruisers H78-15's.

For restoration purposes (and complete coolness factor!), I wanted to share the pics and some details I found.

Few things I noticed were that it looks like the backside or possibly whole rim was painted black, then grey front paint was applied. You can see speckling of grey on the black and the overspray coming through the voids.image.webp image.webp

Also, as you can see in the above pic, all of the welds on the wheels were marked in yellow, assuming that meant they were checked at the factory.
I will attach pics of each wheel and tire. If anyone needs other or more specific pics, feel free to ask.

Enjoy!!!!

Very cool! Thanks for taking the time to post these up.

I will! For now they are cleaned and stacked in the garage out of the light. I was thinking fogging oil or the like then bag them in the basement. Or maybe wax coat? Thoughts anyone? I would like to use them once or twice a year for a local show or pics.

Those are nice. I would try and sell em for major cash if it was me unless I had a perfect nut n bolt restoration 40 or a totally perfect original 40. As far as storage, I would pull out the scraders to let all the air out, then put em in those bags you can hook up a vacuum to and suck all the air out. That should preserve them. Don't ever put any tire shine on em, it dries out the rubber.

I'd just lower the pressure letting the tubes/tires keep their natural shape and keep them away from electric motors.

Straight from Hoosier Tire:

DON'T

1. Don't store tires in direct sunlight or near electric motors. (Electric motors emit small amounts of ozone.) Tires need to be protected from light, especially sunlight. Light causes ultraviolet damage by breaking down the rubber compounds. The storeroom should not contain electrical welding or any other equipment that could produce ozone.
