there's a distributor contact touching the rotor of my 'new' dizzy.
There's no model number on the dizzy, but it's supposed to replace the one I had go bad on me. It looks like my old dizzy with the exception of the black plastic plate and this thing on it.
I've never seen one like it, is it maybe just a 'cleaner'? No metal contact with the rotor. the yellow arrow and paperclip point at it
I'm putting a pertronix in it and for now assuming that there's no reason to keep it ...it's in the way of the petronix plate

No clue, the pic is too small. Maybe part of the magnetic pickup. I have never seen metal contact the rotor. You pays your money and takes your chances with aftermarket parts; that goes for both quality and support.

I say put in petronix and see if it works.

A few months ago I put in a Amoron chinaizuium Delco in my LC - had to change the sealing o-ring; there was too fat and I put on my Toyota drive gear. Very happy for $120. Used my old delco cap, points and condenser as they fit fine.

Maybe a cleaner/lubricator? I dimly recall seeing a dizzy somewhere that had a piece of cloth in about the same position, you were supposed to oil the cloth occasionally.
Anyway, you don't need it for the Pertronix. If it's in the way remove it.

The distributor definitely has points. The part in question appears to be connected to the dial/adjuster. I searched a bit, the knob is something like an octane or altitude adjuster part. It looks like someone was pretty liberal with the distributor grease.

it is a points vac retard dizzy with an octane adjuster. Everything looks just like all the the other distributors I've had,
except for that little thing that hits the rotor. There's no electrical connection, just a rubbing surface? That's why I suspect it's just a wiper for the rotor???

That 'wiper' device appears to be plastic, so it couldn't absorb/distribute oil to the shaft. I guess I'd just ignore/remove it.

I have seen this also, don't recall on what, but do recall it lubricates. It should not interfere with the correct rotor.
