I have to say that the Unichip ECU plug and play really made a difference. This truck was really a dog before, especially at mid range speeds trying to pass. It made a huge difference and the ECU accepted it just fine, no check engine lights. It was definitely worth the money. The installation instructions were pretty good but it didn't show how the Land Cruiser ECU sat in its location vertically, and existing ECU wires were really tight to keep the ECU in its location and tie into the plug and play unit.
Just wanted to give my two cents for anyone considering.

Drove a supercharged Tundra prior to the 07 LC, seemed like I always read more negative reviews versus positive reviews on the unichip. I had a Bullydog tuner on mine...which also had some suspect feedback on non-S/C'ed Tundra's.

Looking at the Unichip website, the Land Cruiser isn't even an option, however the 4.7L is on a few of the years.

I ordered it from Auto Anything and even though it's not on the Unichip website it does show it goes in it in the installation instructions that come with it. I think it is the same one as the Sequoia but different from the 4Runner, at least the wires that plug and play. You could always call Unichip just to be sure. It was easy to install but you are very limited on the wire length on the factory ECU, and so the glove compartment panel could go back on.
I have cat back exhaust and just a AFe prodry air filter. They tuned it for that at the factory.
Seriously it made a huge difference.
If you want a pic of where I put it if you are considering let me know.

There's one online of a same year tundra 02.

Admittedly I only did a quick search and best I could find were a couple vague threads claiming 19-26hp increase. But if you have a link I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to believe ;)

They have dyno readings on their website, you just have to select the dyno tab. I personally just wanted a little something extra to move this thing down the road. It really is next to impossible to find any performance parts for these trucks, so I thought I would give it a shot. And it works and works well, that's all.

Can we discuss the $$ involved? Just curious. I agree that a supercharger kit is really an expensive way to get more power...it would be nice to add a little here and there. Just curious if this is something worth the HP

That's a made up dyno chart if I ever saw one. Not only is it measured in bhp, the horsepower and torque cross at two different RPMs, and neither are right. A Dastek dyno isn't an engine dyno, not that anyone would bother removing the engine for the dyno of a simple chip anyways. And horsepower and torque always cross at 5252 RPM.

Also, they dynoed it up to (and past) 6,000 RPM?

How do you read that chart?
Specs for my 2002 LX470 are that it has 230hp and 320 lbs-ft of Torque at 3,400 rpm.

I am impressed with your testimony that you can sense
a big improvement. Be nice to make our older 100's have
the pep of the 2006-2007 models.

So the plug and play module was right around $575.00. All the plugs fit perfectly. I think there are some others out there that you actually have to splice into the factory wires. This does not, it has the same connectors as the factory ECU. I didn't really buy this based on the dyno chart. I bought it because there a literally only about three options out there and this seemed like the best. And I'm really impressed with the results. Also wanted to note that I always use premium gas 93 octane, always have since I bought it. There are two settings you can switch from one being more conservative (reg unleaded) and the other more performance (prem unleaded).

The solid line is horsepower, the dashed line is torque. Blue is the baseline run (which was a cold air intake and catback exhaust), and red was the run with the Unichip (on top of the intake and exhaust).

Even if the dyno was legit (which it's clearly not), it's misleading because the improved airflow from an intake and exhaust benefit from a retune more than a completely stock car would.

In general, chips are a waste of money because they use "canned" tunes, which are a one size fits all application, not a tune for your specific vehicle. Not all cars are the same, and even new you can have significant power differences, nevermind on vehicles that are a decade or two old now. You would be better off buying something like a Diablosport that can come with a canned tune you can use as a baseline, but also allows you to modify (or install a completely new) tune. Note: I'm not sure if Diablosport makes anything for the 2UZ, just using it as an example as I've used it in the past. Something like HP Tuners (tuning software that is run on a laptop) would be even better, but again I don't know what the 2UZ aftermarket looks like.

I would agree that chips in general are a waste of money. I researched extensively before buying this and was somewhat skeptical about it as I had read some reviews that the ECU wouldn't accept it, or would throw out error codes. I've had it for about a month and it's been great. There really aren't many options out there for these trucks. I wouldn't waste the money to put it on a dyno just to see before and after gains, it's just not worth it to me.
I really threw this post out there to see if anyone else had a positive review about the Unichip or another brand. And just to share my satisfaction with the product and to maybe help someone with questions on the installation.

Nice review to file away in the back of my mind. My first $600 will be spent on exhaust and intake upgrades and then I might consider a chip.

Strike that, my first $600 will be spent replacing my original factory timing belt now that my truck has 250,000 miles on it o_O

I just put one of these in my boosted GX470 after my TRD ECU unceremoniously died. Lucky enough to be close enough to visit the Unichip warehouse. Met Tony who was gracious enough to program one for me and explained how Unichip is being restructured now that it is owned by some of the guys who did the original testing for the tunes they use. Very hands on. End result: brilliant. I had read some opinions here and there about the unichip making power response more uniform and that’s accurate. Far better than the TRD ECU; it’s unclear why that worked so poorly, but it’s pretty clear it wasn’t allowing the 2UZ to shine like it is with the Unichip. My only concern is the lack of model-specific instructions (though the device is specific to the GX and takes into account the supercharger). However, the kit referred to a vacuum line connection to monitor boost and no connector was present on the unit, though a line, t-connector, and brass nozzle were included. I suspect the boost monitor isn’t necessary. The build quality is exceptional, and I’m picky about things (engineer).

I embarked on finding and putting forced induction in partly thanks to the excellent posts from past years. I hope this helps someone else doing the same. GX is a work of art.

I purchased mine directly from https://www.unichipeurope.com/group/Shop. I normally use them with any diesel cars I pick up , just to give them a little push ;) . They always come with instructions too which is very helpful.
Would love to hear your feedback. I have been considering unichip for some time but have yet to go for it. Specifically:
- what version of the 4.2 TD do you have ? I hear that for the earlier models you can add a boost control which helps getting the best out of the engine ?
- is your engine stock ? I have heard the tubing from intercooler to air intake is plastic oem and as the car age it becomes brittle and can crack as the unichip would typically increase slightly boost
- there are gains to be had in the exhaust part and specifically by increasing the diameter of the downpipe which is the immediate bottleneck. Some have change the complete exhaust and decatted but I understand that addressing the downpipe gives most benefits
- given the above I concluded that the plug and play approach may only give you a baseline tune and you probably need further tuning to get full benefits

Looking forward to hear about your experience
