My last buggy:

97 2rz
dual yote cases w/ 4.7 rear
g52 5 speed
yote 8" full fab axles 4.88's
4 link front/rear
14" fox coilovers
14" fox air shocks
36" Iroks on beads
hydro assist steering

Had a blast with the rig, but tore it down to build the new version.

New buggy dubbed Undertow stats:

01 2rz custom intake (aluminum) and exhaust (spiralflow)
keg fuel cell w/ tacoma pump (15 gallon)
3 link front suspension with 14" 2.0 air shocks
4 link dual triangulated rear suspension with 14" fox 2.0 coilovers mounted on lower control arms.
AW4 auto trans with full manual controls
Dana 300 twin sticks for front digs stock 2.72 gearing
Yote axles w/4.88's
36" bias Iroks on beads
Full hydro (behind axle) steering 6 shooters
4 point harnesses
cutting brakes

Basically this is my do it all trail rig for the Northwest. I plan on a belly height of 16-18" on 36's with 6" up travel in front and 8" out back. I want it to weigh around 3k lbs. Suck down winches are in the future along with a possible turbo charge. Any questions just ask.

I cut the roof off my old ride and grafted to the new lower chassis..fully tig welded including front axle.

Before anyone asks about the anchor it is my panhard mount and I grew up fishing in AK.

Its actually a sky manufacturing housing. I glued it all together with the TIG except for where the 3/8" thick axle tubes plug into the 1/2" thick side plates which is triple pass MIG welded. The bells are also welded with the MIG. I think he discontinued them??? which makes mine limited edition. :D

i want to hump your axle

15 Gallon keg fuel cell w/97 Taco fuel pump. I extended the fuel pickup down to the bottom of the keg and built a splash guard for when the fuel runs low. That's a power steering fluid reservoir top I used for the fuel fill. I will probably put a separate fuel pump on/off switch so I can crank the motor without putting fuel to it if ever needed.

AAAARRGGGG, hoist the main sail and head for me treasure! Thanks

nice buggy .. did you ever consider SC for that 2RZ or even upgrade to 3RZ .. ?

Sure did, I didn't like the price tag for the RZ supercharger, so I thought about using a pre-existing more common SC and adapting it to the 01' 2RZ. Then I decided I was going turbo if I did any forced induction, but either would be a blast, so hopefully in the future. As for the 3RZ, during my research I found a couple of downfalls. The 2RZ supposedly can handle more boost (I think it was a connecting rod pin:confused: which is stronger in the 2RZ). The 3RZ has balance shafts on either side of the block which can starve for oil during prolonged off camber situations which the 2RZ does not have and I can get the 2RZ's for about $500 cheaper. Both motors would probably work out good, but the price difference really sealed the deal.

Cool build. I would be really interested in hearing the parts used to build your motor. I have a 3rz in the garage that is going into a 69 Toyota Corona, trying to get 350 to the wheels...thanks.

And I'd like more info on your trans...

Aisin makes an AW450, they put behind Fuso and NPR diesels. Is that what you are using?
Maybe I'm not up to speed on Toyo trans'...

How are you handling control?

Bitchin build BTW, thanks for sharing.

So far its nothing more than a junkyard motor with 80,000 miles on it. I am sure eventually that will change.. I built the custom intake and exhaust.. I wonder if I will see any more power from those mods:hillbilly:

I am using the AW4 out of a jeep cherokee with a Tacoma 4 cylinder flex plate/bell housing and a 3.0 V6 Toyota torque converter. Everything seems to fit together correctly, but I will know more when I try and put it in gear for the first time.

I have RADesigns 1-4 baja 2 shifter to control the trans along with the RADesigns rock shifter

Thanks for the encouragement

Your build is looking pretty sweet! I guess we are neighbors. I live in Springfield. Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks for the offer and compliment.
