Be careful with Hagerty. Unless they have recently (as in the last 6 months or so) changed things, they will not cover SUVs and 4x4s and will really crimp your usage of the rig.

I have zero issues getting coverage through Auto-Owners ....

I had no luck using my insurance company that insures all my other vehicles and my house (she tried), but the she does act as a broker for Hagerty insurance and was able to get me covered that way. You can do a search for agents that work with Hagerty as a broker in your area...they can be from State Farm, Geico or whatever.

I am paying $518 for the whole year (I valued it at $30,000) just to be on the safe side.

Hagerty won't cover me because I'm not in an enclosed bay. I just got Farmer's insurance to quote me full coverage at ~$580. Progressive was similar. Geico costs me $150/m for both my '70 Monte Carlo and the Toyota... but not for long. The MC is going to be a garage queen for a while until I prep her for painting.

Hmm...Hagerty listed it on my policy as "Truck/Jeep/SUV". Thank you for the heads up though, hopefully I don't have any problems with them for the first year until I can find more options.

Edit: Mine is listed as garaged (which it is) and I do not drive it to work (not a daily driver) which is funny because I work at the Toyota Tundra/Tacoma plant. I am sure it would get a lot of attention if I did. I guess those factors made it easier to insure.

I hope you find someone to help you insure your cruiser. It was a real pain for me here in Texas and seemed like Hagerty was my only option.

I realize it's not an option for many people, but USAA had no issue writing me a full coverage policy on my Australian HJ75.

Agree, USAA had no issues with my 1989 BJ 74.

USAA is not for all of us, of course. Get this: Geico - $830/6 months for the '88 Land Cruiser and the '70 Monte Carlo for just liability. Farmer's - $422/6 months for FULL COVERAGE. Holy crap, no contest. Geico wouldn't even consider talking about it with me, even after 10 years of being a customer.

Advice: shop for insurance every few years. It's not in their best interest to inform you of better options.

heres my 1987 BJ75 troopy. Ads always say that the car is ready to drive cross country, which is pretty much what i did. I'd had it about 3 weeks when i loaded it up and moved to CA. Pulled the uhaul the whole way without issue, except high altitude which slowed me down quite a bit. I think it belonged to a fire department in Denmark or something, it had a ladder holder on the roof as well as that giant box. somehow it only had about 45k miles on it when i bought it and came with factory cable lockers. I have since removed the giant box and taken about a foot off the front bumper and moved all the lights to the front roof rack. I got some 80 series wheels that i'm going to put 33's on when i get back from working on my ship. I'd love to build some front and rear bumpers for her while i'm at work and have access to a machine shop, if anyone knows the dimensions.

Cruiser fire rigs rock!

We had a similar saying back when I owned Land Rovers .....
"Land Rovers that aren't on fire rock". :)
What a genius combination - oil leaks plus Lucas electrics. Fuel + ignition, just add oxygen = insurance write-off :)

Remember guys ...... If you own a 70 Series that is legally registered in the U.S. please post it here. With the increasing numbers that are being imported, this list should be expanding on a weekly basis. :)

You are now eligible for the free 70 Series t-shirt* and you will be shown the secret hand shake in the near future. :)

* I may have been exaggerating about the t-shirt.
