Putting the spring on the opposite side of the axle housing doesn't make it flex more, it does give you more ground and tire clearance.

If the tire hits the inner fender well on the axle hits the bumpstop before the spring inverts than it doesn't matter wether you have anti-inversion shackles.

Basically it doesn't matter unless he's off-road.

Im not saying you are wrong, but the SOA creates more flex. It puts more leverage on the springs resulting in more articulation. And i have ran my shackles like that since i finished my lift and they have been fine. i don't really need the anti inversion shackles but those were what was in the garage. My set up is done properly so the shackles won't invert anyways

I know having had both Spring Under and Spring Over Axle setups that the SOA flexes a lot more, and it's hard to argue against that...

2.5" lift had minimal articulation, Shackle reversal with 35s rubbed bad but had decent flex and the SOA is night and day compared to both. The main reason behind this is the ability to run larger tires with a SOA lift ( the further the axle is off of the rocks the easier it is to maneuver over them). Plus in a SUA setup the spring is not given the chance to invert due to the fact that the bump stop limits it.

I won't rant anymore because this subject has been worn out more than once. Your right that the shackle setup doesn't matter on the street, unless of course you hit a huge pot hole. :D

Its been a while since i posted..

I have a couple questions.
I had my exhaust re done after my SOA. It was a local shop that was pretty cheap and they seemed to do a decent job. Recently with my windows down enjoying the summer weather, I started to hear what sounds like a flag flapping in the wind coming from my tail pipe. This only happens when getting up to speed in higher gears. I have the stock duel cats and a Magna Flow muffler. It seems like this sound isn't helping out on the performance end of things. I don't expect a race car... but i want to fix this problem. If anything i just want to get rid of the annoying sound.

second question

I just got a Safari Snorkel. What do i need to know before install? I have read the instructions and some threads and think im ready to commit. anything i need to know?

Depending on what type of muffler you used, you could have blown out a baffle. I had this happen to a Flowmaster last year. Took it to the local super cheap hole in the wall exhaust shop and had a new muffler and tailpipe put in for dirt cheap, even got to examine the truck on the lift while the owner got the tubes bent. lol

messed around with a j**p the other day

Did you ever put a traction bar on this beast?

I would seriously consider it if you are going SOA. I blew out a set of u-joints on my double cardan driveshaft, lots of axle wrap even with a 2f. And I have an add-a-leaf.

I took a before and after video and it made me cringe knowing that I drove it a year without one...

I never got the chance to fab one up before I sold her. It was one of the next things to be done but when the transmission died it went to the bottom of the list. After looking at options for transmission swaps or rebuilds I just decided to sell Wampa. With 300,000 miles on it I was worried that other little things would start needing more attention as well and I didn't have the time or money to go through it all. Wampa is off with a new family now getting lots of love. I think the owner said he was putting a 6bt in it but I can't remember. Maybe he is here on mud?

Anyways, yes I highly recommend a traction bar. It's just one of those things you need to do the SOA the right way. It will save you some headache out on the trail for sure

Alright guys.. I know its not an update on the truck. Its been about a year without WAMPA. You know its bad when you start having dreams about your old cruiser. I really wish i kept the owners name and number just so i could check up on her. If anyone knows or sees anything post it up! I have gone through a TRD Tacoma and now i have a Turbo diesel BJ70 and i still dont get the same feelings that i did driving WAMPA. Im definitely not ready to buy it back but its just amazing how you can get so attached to a vehicle. Who knows.. maybe WAMPA 2.0 will be in the making in a few years. Anyways.. im always lurking and getting jealous of you guys!

Just picked up a 62 a couple weeks ago with my dad. Aiming for something pretty similar to what you did with Wampa, it's definitely a big inspiration for the build!
