Hi guys - wondering if anybody has a tubing bender I could borrow? Light duty stuff - about 1" round or square tube. I'm working on my trailer and want to experiment with some ideas for the lid.

EDIT - nevermind. Decided to KISS

That jd2 bender looks pretty nice...check out rogue fab also...petty good price for a hydraulic bender.

You can get better results from they hf (or similar) benders by packing the pipe with sand and capping to reduce crushing. It's a pain, though and its still hit and miss...

Yeah... I had mentioned the sand thing to Luke and he said the real problem with the HF model (I'm paraphrasing here, so I hope I'm not miss quoting) is that the money you save in with the HF model, you lose in wasted tubing, since you can't put bends close together (you need ~4 ft of pipe or so per bend). So... you're making a bunch of bends and then cutting out sections you need and welding those together, leaving you with a bunch of scrap tubing.

???........although I could always put on some of my "hippies banging sticks together" music, have a couple beers then weld up some groovy scrap tube art.

You can just weld together the pieces of scrap tube and bend the newly created longer sections :)

But seriously...Luke makes a good point, fighting with the hf might make sense for a smaller project but not for fabbing a cage or a set of bumpers.

HA!!! and think of how good I'd be at welding tubing!!! :hhmm:

I have a tube bender if anyone wants to use it. Its the JD2 one. I only have one die though.

Awesome Tony! Thanks. I'm not quite ready for any tube bending yet, but I'll definitely give you a call when the time comes. I love the idea of being able to use a tool before buying one.

No, mine was more like the speedway motors 3rd gen bender, but more affordable and it came with 4 dies and a 4 sided bottom slide. I can't remember the company and I'll probably never come across it again. I like the style of this model, because it you have long ended multiple bends, you can flip the bender on its side, or take it out in the driveway. Might save you from putting a pipe through your garage ceiling :)

The unit I was considering way back in the day was the Williams low-buck tools bender. I see they have caught up with the times and increased its price considerably since I was looking for a bender. Check out "lowbucktools.com" click on products, then tube benders, and read the bottom "we do not sell this bender" link ;)

@88Chevota: What die do you have? I have one of the older 32 benders with a 1.75 die. It will be in South central CO here before too long if all goes well.

@Fitz- Unless you are going to be bending for a very long time, borrow one. They take up a bit of space and they are pretty heavy. I got one after halfway finishing my cage, then did sliders etc, built an exo for someone else and so far it has been used by others more than by me. Kinda like a boat, better to have a friend with one...
