In my collection of IH8MUD info, I have a note saying they are 35mm freeze plugs on the left side of the engine block. Sorry that I cannot confirm for sure. Did you run a search?

These are the plug numbers in the Toyota data bank not sure which one you need exactly since the parts schematic is a little sketchy on where each one is located

11431A PLUG, TIGHT, NO.1(FOR CYLINDER BLOCK)
90331-51032 OD=51 x 2
11431B PLUG, TIGHT, NO.2(FOR CYLINDER BLOCK)
96411-12800 OD=28 x 4
11431C PLUG, TIGHT, NO.3(FOR CYLINDER BLOCK)
96411-13000 OD=30 x 5
11431D PLUG, TIGHT, NO.4(FOR CYLINDER BLOCK)
96411-13500 OD=35 x 4
11431E PLUG, TIGHT, NO.5(FOR CYLINDER BLOCK)
96411-11400 OD=14 x 3

This one is in our 3B.

Thanks for the replies - I've figure it out.

My block heater was never installed in the proper place. The 35mm plug is there, intact and looks original. My BH is directly behind the hard lines from the injection pump as seen here:

So, I can A) find a BH that will fit there, even if it's not ideal or B) Get a freeze plug, try and install it (which given the location might be a pita), pull out the 35mm plug and put the heater in there.

I like option "A" for simplicity... What plug would that be called? I see there are 28 and 30mm plugs according to a previous post...

And if it's option "B", how do I remove a freeze plug? drill a srew into it and pull?

That's where my BH is as well, must have been some tiny fingers to get it in there...

The bigger question is can you find a block heater that will fit there? How much space is there between that hole and the other side of the cylinder jacket? I don't remember (even though I've replaced all the freeze plugs on a 3B), but sometimes it's tricky to get a freeze plug that fits and does have too deep of a heating element.

And if it's option "B", how do I remove a freeze plug? drill a srew into it and pull?

SUPER EASY.

Thanks Dan, Useful info!

That Block heater you say you are running, is it in the same spot as mine?

I have the old block heater so I will measure that and try to find a replacement. The phillips temro website has a catalog that lists 30mm BH but the question is the element size.

If it's a 28mm however, that will be a different ball game!

Ambrew, not to hijack the topic but but my experience with electric/bloc heater has been a hassle. I've had the breaker trip on cold days to find out that needed to go back in and wait, or crank the thing to get it started which is painful. This happened several times and bad timing, plus the fact I was asking for an outlet wherever I went or some more cord ...
I ended up installing a Espar Hydronic 4 on ebay and installed it my self. The units are bullet proof and simple like the diesel, you can get them for anywhere $200 and up. Make sure the electronics are good if you decide to go that way one day.
Good luck

Thanks for all the input!

I have found a zerostart from phillips temro part number 3100011 that fits in this location. I'ts a 30mm and the element is small enough if you point it to the rear of the truck. I had to plug in the cable before installation as well since the IP does not leave much room.

Hope this helps someone in th future!

Anyone able to locate this? Ive been searching and isnt in stock anywhere
