TrXus MT- Tread Wear

wow this thread is getting off topic but since its going that way....josh, im close friends with a kid at HSC, he is big into wheeling but has only ever had a jeep grand cherokee, he has respect for cruisers but really likes Range rovers, his dad has a brand new one.....anyways he told me last night that a kid showed up at school after spring break with a brand new G500. i'm hoping next year you will show him whats up. nice rig but you know he will never wheel it. There are a few guys with 40's there though...and of course a ton of of them with 100's...pfff

Ok, to set things straight. I daily drive a 94 fzj80. It sees about 40 highway miles everday, as well as a gravel driveway, my driveway is extremely steep and in VA we do see a little snow. I would also be doing a little wheeling, mostly just fireroad type stuff in GWNF. Also, i will be going to college next year, either in NORTHERN VA or in Farmville, VA. Thee tires will see alot of pavement and need to wear well. Thats why i dont really see the TrXus as a good decision. BFG mtr's look nice but i just think they are overkill. trying to get something under 180. I really am open to any suggestions.

Future college student needing tires for light wheeling and snow. Tires need to wear well and will see tons of pavement.

What you need is an All Terrain tire. The BFG AT is a good AT but the Nitto Terra Grappler is just as good for less money. That's right, the NTG is about $40-50 less per tire.

I will be buying some NTG's very soon.

Yeah cruiserhead I hear ya. I can't wait to go wheeling with some of the guys there and you. Don't worry I will show them how it's done there. Anyway I have gotten a skid plate from iron pig which is great. I get most of my work done at Urban Landcruiser though in downtown Atlanta so I will need a good place to go to when I move to Virginia. Good luck on your decision on college and tires!

Very happy with the Nitto's, after two sets of BFG/AT's on my 4runner the Nitto's are smother, quieter and better on the trail. The tread wear looks good, I only have about 10K miles on them .

When is somebody going to put a set of Mud Grapplers on and give us a review?

I heard bad things about the grapplers. I heard they sound like sh!t on road and aren't the greatest offroad. Thats just the word on the street though. So don't quote me.

Well i think i will most likely go with a BFG AT b/c of its slow wear and decent traction. Price is decent, i am on a highschool budget. Unless GA can help justify doing BFG MT's when 90% of my driving is on pavement and i may be going to college an hour away from DC(I.E. tons of on-road driving). Thanks for all your help though. As soon as i hear back from my other colleges i will email Lance and try to setup an appointment.

Yeah man All terrains will probably be perfect for what you will want to do. Even though they don't look as cool they are still an amazing tire and will suit your needs perfectly. Glad you decided to go with BFG because they are the best. Best of luck with your lift and college.

P.S. If you come to HSC you will be doing 40 percent driving on pavement and 60 percent offroad when your with me. So get the muds if you go there.

Because I still plan on driving it on a more varied schedule than just offroad and want a quieter street ride. I had TSLs on my 55 and it sounded like I was riding in a small plane...no thanks!

It's basically between Hampden-Sydney and George Mason now. Perhaps its not a good comparison but lets face it. There is four kids in out family and HSC is 30k + a year. although they will give me like 10k in scholarship....still very pricey, if i go to mason i can get me own appt. keep my car and maybe get a job.....I'm having a hard time deciding.
