Any negatives? How well did it fit? are you using factory bows?
I am using factory bows that were from overseas that accommodate hard doors. As far as the fitting I’m having issues with it lining up front to back. I need a little for slack to get it in the right position.

are the above door "Slide" supports adjusted right? I believe they can be shortened or widened a bit? I could be wrong but i know mine are two piece like the ones on my hard top. if so you may be able to bring the rails behind doors forward as long as it doesn't effect your door sill. Possibly!

Do I have this right?

TROA top doesnt include harware/bows?
You can purchase a full kit with a soft top, bows and hardware OR if you already have OE bows, get just the top (includes hardware like footman loops and twist locks).

I also spoke with one of the guys that works for them and he asked me to send some videos so they could identify the problem. I just haven’t had time yet.
Let me know if I can help any further, you have my number.

How does the TROA top/kit compare to the Bestop?

I'm undertaking a tub replacement/installing an aluminum tub/cowl and pondering buying a kit before I paint it and install any necessary hardware

I can't speak to the quality of Bestops as I don't really have any experience with them. I do know that they look like they belong on a jeep because they are made for jeeps. They must be doing something right though, they've been around since 1954.

Why I went with a TROA was the function of the roll up sides and windows and the fit/function/look/similarity to the OEM soft tops. Columbia had a large industry finishing LandCruisers that came into country as part of a trade/import agreements so there is a pedigree to a degree there.

Makes sense and that is a good call. What color were you thinking? Do you have a rear tailgate or saloon doors or would you want to go with ambulance doors?

@jayp2

Troa makes the soft tops and soft top frames and hardware as much as a copy from the original Toyotas soft tops when the FJ40 were delivered when new.

Best top is a brand that deliveres a total other custom soft top design that has close nothing to do with the original soft top

Not sure! Need to look into that. Thanks for the feedback.

I have a '72 FST with soft doors and if I purchased a TROA soft top, can I get matching fabric for my FST soft doors?

My Troa top fits the same as cims on that first bow- I could stretch it to get it snapped which works ok but it sucks.
Also its at least 3 inches too wide across the top of the windshield frame.
And the material they use for the rear straps is smooth and slippery so the straps come loose and untie when you drive down the road.

This is an older Troa top that is all around better quality and it fits good except above the doors. The rear tie down strap material is a lot thicker with a course texture so it stays tied.

@Camotubebender thank you for your input and experience, that’s what this thread is for.

My loops were actually sewn a bit aft so it stretched out the front section a bit.

As for the wide front, I’ve spoken to them about that, hopefully they are fixing it. I solved it by folding the corners over and putting a grommet through both layers, see below.

My straps hold fine but I see what you mean, it’s like both the straps and hardware are smooth. I was concerned about this but it hasn’t been an issue.

To be clear, I don’t work for or represent TROA. I actually became a distributor after many back and forth conversations about how I felt they needed to improve. I have some reviews coming up on some of their body parts, stay tuned.

The folded over corners look good on yours, when I tried that the doors would catch when opening/closing. I see you double your straps over too that helps a bit. I put the turn buckles higher on the quarters than you did and raised the bows up an inch or so. I think Troa makes the tops with a little extra length all the way around because then they will be acceptable-if they are short anywhere they will get more returns
