In order to finally put an end to what the trim code means... post up what your data plate says and any distinguishing factors about your trim package.

Interior and exterior details... like a chrome bezel or bumper... color of seats... material: vinyl or cloth... seating araingements anything that you think may be useful for us to know.

If you see a discrepency that makes yours different as compared to one already posted ... let us know.

I can use this 1st post to log the variations and packages once we have enough information about the different styles...

Good idea to set up this thread to try and improve our understanding of the letters and numbers representing our 40-series trim codes Johnny

My 1979 Australian-market BJ40 is trim code LK11

And its uphostery is light-grey vinyl

It has an ordinary painted bezel (Cygnus White) so nothing special there. In fact I know of nothing special about my trim at all so I suspect we'll find LK11 is the normal trim code for any "light-grey vinyl trim package" (as opposed to the darker grey which I think was used in earlier models)..

Without doing a lot of research, I'll take a stab at January 1979 as being the date of appearance of this LK11 trim code and of the light-grey colour I believe it may represent.

(Hopefully further posts in this thread will prove whether I'm right or wrong with making a connection between LK11 and "the common late-model light-grey-vinyl trim package".)

1978 FJ40 with LE11 - has black leather (new when I bought it in March, 2014) seats and black vinyl/ABS(?) dash pad - no idea if it was black or grey originally.

But, it's VERY special to me!!

A site with information on Toyota trim codes. Scroll to the bottom to the 'Interior' section. According to the information, the first 2 letters are the fabric type, the next 2 are the interior colors.

Although LE is not listed, LB is identified as vinyl; 11 is identified as Grey, Moon Mist.

From reviewing photos and descriptions of firewall plates on Mud and other sites, these trim codes were used for US FJ40s:

1976-78 LE11
1979-83 LP11

Johnny,

To add to the mix:

Have three Middle East spec from 1979-1983 with vinyl seating surfaces of beige with a gray and charcoal PLAID overlay, and standard light gray vinyl surrounds, all listed as PC11.

And here is what's there (so it's imbedded in this thread and doesn't get lost as a result of changes to that site):

I think what they say in the first sentence of the last image is most relevant here and that, at the end of this, we should try and construct a similar chart .. but restrircted solely to 40-series Land Cruisers

My trim code is KA01. I notice this trim code is not listed on the site. It has off white vinyl trimmed seats with a reddish brown cloth insert. Although the door panels were dark gray when I bought it, I think they were the same off white color originally, so I refinished them to bring back to near original. I also believe the floor mat was a tan color. It is missing now. The dash pad, grab handles, window cranks, and door handles are black. I believe this combination was sold as the L-Package.

Here is a picture of my seats.

And door panels dyed as close to original as I could get.

And here is a picture of the original floor mat and door panel colors. (Not mine)

Here's what Toyota published in 1987...

I tried to show Johnny earlier by PM but it may have been too hard to read. So this time I have split it into two images to try and get the type-size larger:

TCA.webp

TCB.webp

Ooops. The first line of the second image repeats the last line of the first image ... But at least dropping it in as 2 separate images has indeed made it more readable..

Whether we gain anything from it all is quite another matter though...

Has anybody ever seen the Color Instruction Drawing referred to at the beginning?

Johnny,

My Australian BJ42 LX has FD41.

Cloth Seats and Brown vinyl trim on doors and floor and brown plastic trim in the rear.

My code is LD00. Color code is 062.

It's a Middle East vehicle (code GCC for Gulf Cooperation Council I believe).

Exterior is mother-of-pearl-isa white with lots of gold accents incl hood emblem/ornament. Interior is pretty standard LC100 tan leather/wood, although I had not seen the wood steering wheel or shift knob in wood before outside of an LX470.

Details and some pics here: What's this for? And .....presenting my new LC100:

May 1980 FJ40
Trim Code .."LR11"
Paint Code "416"
The seats and door cards are a dark gray. The metal seat backs are the same gray color.
