Transfer case oil level verification

Guys, I’m leaking out of what appears to be the vent on the passenger side of the case up higher than the rear mounted fill/level check plug. Naturally I believe I’m overfilled by previous owner. FJ40 1978.
Am I correct in my assumption of locations and plugs? Shouldn’t I be just barely running out of the fill/check plug?
BTW this was a restoration so case was probably filled on the bench by some kid.

Yes the fluid should be level with the fill plug.

Yes it was over the fill plug top. Drained until it was running out at the base of the plug hole.

Checked and drain to appropriate level. Was only over by approximately 7-8 oz.

Check your transmission oil level, see if it's 7-8 oz. low...
