I don't even bother with that thin paper gasket, just used a smear of the FIPG instead.

I used both a gasket and some gasket maker sealant. A little overkill doesn't hurt

From: Mark '' mrlocksmith''

Be warned there are many places where the oil may be leaking from and for the most part the evidence from these many source points is found on/in/near the inspection cover. Clean up the oil and then inspect the following areas:

1) Valve Cover Gasket
2) Push Rod Gasket
3) Rear Main Seal
4) When doing the Rear Main Seal there are two other areas that you should look at. One is a galley plug with a very large allen head and the other is a push plug for the back what I think is the camshaft. Leaking from these areas is rare.
5) When replacing the rear main buy an OEM gasket.. I had to do mine twice :(
6) Do a search on the oil galley plug that us just in back of the #5 cylinder on the head. Lets hope you are not leaking oil from there.

I found a great way to slide the t-case on to the trans without destroying
the shaft seal..

two bolts cut off and used on the top right and left trans bolt hole and slide the case on then throw in a couple lower bolts- unscrew the top bolts and replace. easy fast and give you the insurance that you did not ruin the inner seal.
