Trail Hitch Tire Carrier?

The only flex I find is in the bumper. I am sure at 50mph on a washboard road it would vibrate some. Driving around town and stuff I didn't notice any at all. Surprisingly solid! If you grab the tire and shake it you can make it flex but other wise it's not moving yet. I drove it on some s***ty roads this morning and watched it like a hawk.

Yes, how is it? I've always stayed away from things like this for that reason. I like the look of their receiver mounted model, looks like the most inward part is a wedge that you tighten to kill the sway/slop, which is a good eat idea. Just yesterday I was behind a van in the freeway with a cargo basket in the receiver, and watching it flop all over was pathetic, and scary for MX riders as well. Now I need to call these guys, I'd rather have a basic, badass bumper for a few hundred bucks and one of these, than dropping two grand on Slee's bumper! (Sorry guys, the lift kut and front bumper ran me dry in the wallet for a while!) And I need to pick their brains and get one for a 37" tire, if they'll do it hopefully. My guess would be receiver mounted

The wedge shown above, seems like a great idea, flaskback to my bmx days and those fancy stems/bars!

Please measure clearance from tire to both your upper and lower gates. Want to see if my Gobi ladder prevents me from going this route or not.

Thx again, looking good Billy Ray!

It has a couple inches of adjustment which is nice. How far out does your Gobi ladder stick out? I bet he could make the carrier tube longer.

Please confirm the adjustment comes in at the tire mount neck (assumption on my part based on your pic below). Does that square tube slide further out and get pinned where you want it?

I won't know clearance on my ladder until Thursday night at the earliest. 80 isn't in my garage right now.....

That square tube can be flush with the end. The bolts tighten it down.

It's great so far. Still haven't had it off road. I bought and house and have been moving.

Right on. I haven't had a chance to call these guys on brain picking one for a 37, but if they'd make me one for a 35,/same as yours but a side drop I could definitely beef it up, along with the mounting point (pintle/across member).

I like the fold down. There are scenarios I would have been cussing a swing out already.

As far as that, I was referring to the side folding one instead of it coming straight back, so when it's lowered I still have a clear path to the tailgate/rear end without it being in the way. I'm going to check more images to verify it's clearly out of the way, but if I remember correctly it is. When yours is lowered, how is it approaching the tailgate? Blocked significantly? I guess if it was, my daughter would then have a step to get on the tailgate :hmm:

I guess I never updated my post, I ended up making my own...

I will look for pics, total cost was about 150.00....swings down when needed.

It's not bad at all actually. I have used it as a step as well.

Ok so I found my old thread where I posted this originally....

Drill a hole the size of a trailer hitch pin here...

And presto, u have a flip down tire carrier.

This last pic shows the tire carrier before I extended the vertical part a few inches so it could fully open...

I extended it maybe 2 inches so it could clear the trailer ball.

Hope this helps....I think it was actually closer to 125.00 or less...

This is what I built with metal I had laying around. The ratchet strap holds it in position and I included a safety cable with a carabineer incase the ratchet broke. It also held the tire just clear of the lift gate so I could access the back without having lay the tire on the ground.

Nice work guys!

Got my tire carrier today - definitely good work - nice welds, solid construction. Needs to be painted (comes primed). Will update how it works with 35s but I anticipate no issues

Reworked my thoughts. Going to use one of these, hinged off of a pintle mount to do a side drop like the jawbone in a sense. Going the cheaper route for now, and I have most of the materials already.

Did you order the jawbone? I've emailed then twice with no response.
