Hey, I made my account on ih8mud just to get in contact with you. I've read hundreds of threads and have seen a plethora of advice from you that I've noted. I've been looking at buying the LJ78 that's been on marketplace in Gibbons for the past 4 months and wanting to drive to Edmonton. I was wondering if you could dm so I could pick your brain on some stuff. I'm too new to dm you still.'B' engine I believe? (first in the B series of diesels).

The one you’re looking at may seem like a great deal, but there’s a reason it has been listed for 4 months.
Personally, I’d spend a little more up front… rather than more after purchase to keep a lame dog alive. I’m sure he has spent more on its engine than the difference between what he paid and what a Landcruiser with a better diesel would have cost. Especially if time has any value to you.
When I bought my Fj40 in Dec ‘91 for $1250 I thought it was a deal and a great starting point. I don’t regret it, but I would have been much further ahead if I’d spent $3000 a few months later on an Fj40 that was in way better condition. I wouldn’t have needed a new engine, frame swap, new rear tub, and brakes in the first 4 years of ownership.
Needs flares and more sidewall imho.

Not sure if this price of fuel is anything to do with big orange man, seems like it went up the next day will millions of litres in reserve tanks along with all the fuel stations tanks. Pretty sure the unregulated fuel companies in Canada are price fixing and just plane gauging. Maybe if we had a coupe refineries in Canada we would not feel this pain?
