The system is not completely finished yet .
tomorrow I need to attach all wiring to the electric valve , visible in the last Photo .
this will open the flow from water tank and attivate the electric pump .
the return pipe will sprinkle the hot water in each SS tank from above .
cold water will be taken from the bottom , and sent to the HE .
stay tuned for the rest .

thanks for watching Renago
Thank you for these, Renago! We will have to copy this setup soon!

Pls let me finish it , and give some prsticla results in timing needed to warm up the water , and in any upgrade .
Just some more days .
Today doesn't look good to finish the job .
But I will keep you posted .
Take your time! We are building house at the moment, so Troopy is unfortunately not right at the top of the list 😄

Hi Renago! Did you build the HE yourself, or did you buy one. If bought, can you tell us who from?
PS: Will be fantastic if you are planning to visit us!!!

Hi Troepadoer

The heat exchanger , must be bought , mine is a 6 plate SS/copper , rather small , because I don't have too much space .
But I believe it should be enough.
After all we just have to heat up the water From 15 C to 37C approx.
If that will take 15 min.instead of 10 , I am still happy 😊.
But change the HE , is a gift from a friend of mine that works in the house heaters industry.
I bet you can find them any were .
They should not be too expensive either .

Will advise when we come to South Africa .
Where are you based in ZA ?

Today I finished the plumbing of the pipes that go and return to the water tank .
It looks messy, and complicated in the photo .
This is due to the very narrow space that I have in the panel .
But all works well .
Now to the electric part ....

We have a house in Cape Town where we stay for aprox one week every month. Our home is in Augrabies, a very small settlement on the edge of the Kalahari and close to Namibia and Botswana. You will be most welcome!!!

Just stumbled across this thread. Awesome work @renago and very inspiring. Glad to hear you will get to enjoy the fruits of your long hard work in South Africa. Thanks for your persistence in keeping us posted. Amazing job!

Tataaaaa.
Today I made a journey of approx 400 km , and had time to test in full the HE .
At full heat set , I activate the close circuit water system , set the alarm on my phone at 4 minutes .
And I have 35 L of hot water at 40 C.
Just 4 minutes !
What do you think ?

Must say I am really happy of this hot water project .
The tank of 35 L was full , so with less water in the tank ,I must be careful .
But saw that it also cools down rapidly .
The tank is in SS.

A possibility , but I don't want the system to become too complicated.
And maybe some times I would need the water to be very hot , so to use it for inside heating .

Thermostats can be adjustable. I was playing with the idea of an external propane powered hot water heater and pump hooked up to supply interior heat with a fan heat exchanger and a thermostat. The same setup would also supply hot water for showers, cooking etc.
The main idea would be to supply heat and hot water when camped without having to run the vehicle.

For heating up the interior of the vehicle I have a airtop webasto , running on the fuel tank .
Just 250 cc /h , gives a nice coat temperature inside .
