Following — this could be an interesting path to take on my next build. I’m inclined to agree that for the majority of use cases, this probably makes more sense than the all-or-nothing locker approach
I wish AAM made the Tracrite GTL for more applications. Its a helical LSD with locking capability. Its what is used in the rear axle of the Ram Powerwagon.

An interesting and evidently a very performant path. For those that follow Matt Off-road, the Banana and Morvair have serious technical chops and they both use Spicer limited-slips in the rear axle. With Detroit front auto-lockers. Sure, they are more setup for recovery work, but they also run level 7+ Jeep trails without flinching.

Limited slip style traction devices also benefits those in between low traction sand/snow use cases where you don't exactly want an open or locked diffs.

I'm a believer in these types of setups.

Does anyone know if the LX600 carrier is the same as the 200? I thought it was also a 9.5”. I know there is a version of the LX that comes with a factory rear Torsen

Seems to be holding up well so far, though its operation is transparent so you don't really know it's doing anything. I do believe the torque bias helps crawl, I wonder if it might create enough torque to damage a half shaft with turn assist....but I have about 2000 miles on it so far, it's quiet and you really would not know it was there. I did get to turn all the electronics off and drift it a little on the level washes in Anzo Borrego!
Still holding up well?

Good info here.

I think I am going to go this route in the rear during a regear and maybe an harrop e-locker in the front. I had detroit truetracs front and rear in my Jeep Liberty CRD and loved them. It also had full-time 4wd. Thing was a complete animal with the truetracs.

Cool thread, this is what I am likely going to do. Anyone know if there is an LSD for the front? Or do you just go Elocker?

I was thinking elocker just because the front tires are probably more likely to leave the ground.

Also, a front helical LSD will make the steering tight and will make the steering wheel want to snap back to center more aggressively in 4wd. Since these trucks only have full-time 4wd, it will mean that this will always be the case and you just have to deal with it. It could get annoying.

My Jeep Liberty, that had helical LSD’s in both axles, had 2wd, full time 4wd, and part time 4wd so I didn’t always have to deal with the front diff. I could just put it in 2wd and the diff would be transparent

Yeah, this makes sense. With full time 4wd an LSD might be a problem. I had a Loka mechanical locker on my Taco and even in 2wd that one felt weird. It worked fine but it wasnt smooth.
