Looking for the torque converter plug location on my 99 cruiser. Looked online and on mud forum without luck. Can anyone assist with location via pic or diagram? Thanks in advance!

Plug for what? Are you trying to drain it, or are you looking for the lockup solenoid harness?

There is no drain on any Land Cruiser TC...that's why I asked.

I can add a drain to you TC if you'd like

Old Ford C6 transmissions had drain plugs, but I have never seen a Japanese vehicle with one. The plug allows you to get a lot more fluid out of the converter during a fluid change, but that can be accomplished other ways.

I was under the assumption it was more of an electrical plug, but you are probably correct.

Attempting to narrow down cause of my cruiser pulsating vs gentle surging while driving at constant speed.
Try manually shifting. See if any change!

Couldn't this be a fluid level / fluid condition thing? Do you know the maintenance history of your transmission / fluid changes?

Do a bit of a search on the forums, I forget the exact procedure but you want to get it up to temperature before checking ( I think ) plus try whatever 2001lc is suggesting to help narrow it down.

I read on a different forum that low transmission fluid could cause vibrations. I’ve been doing the fluid changes on the cruiser since I’ve owned it, about 10 years, including the transmission fluid. I drive maybe 8k miles per year, so sometimes there’s a decent amount of time in between transmission fluid changes, but I’m not sure that would negatively affect it…but I could be wrong!
Good suggestion about checking the fluid level, appreciate the advice.

For sure...Yeah Ive been lucky not to have any transmission problems on the 100 series but I know the symptoms you described could be something torque converter related for sure but since we have a very low failure rate ( not sure if anyone has reported a torque converter lock up / function problem here ) Id start simple and check fluid levels. Sounds like you've got experience in that department.

Oh, just a random though on checking TC lock up operation. I remember someone mentioned this a while back and I try it now and then , works on my 4 speed....When cruising along in top gear with foot on accelerator, gently tap the brake too, the TC should lock up and you will feel / see the rpm change

I also have what could be confused as a pulsating on my GX470 while Cruising along at certain speeds. Don't be fooled by exhaust vibrations feeling like a pulsing , that's what I had going on ...Check the weights on your exhaust, the one on my muffler rotted out a few years ago...

Just some random / quick check stuff , may not be the problem but idk

Sounds like A/T fluid drain & fills. One issue doing these, and any done before by PO (unknown ATF). Is what ATF used. We can end up with mix of fluids, which is not good. Also important, is how and at what A/T fluid temp level is set.

By manually shifting. It may help isolate issue. Engine, A/T mechanical or A/T electrical.
