there is a small window to topcoat the POR in the cavity under the seats, so took that opportunity to lay down a protective layer of epoxy before applying seam sealer. There are a LOT of seams on a truck.

Little Epoxy Primer to the bottom, I used Black, probably didn't really need to as it will get heat and noise reducer and a liner on top of that but i figured if something were to get knocked loose later then it would be less obvious if she had black panties on underneath the black dress. after the SPI black epoxy cured some more seam sealer was applied.

next step after seam sealing the cab bottom, Al's heat and noise reducer.. I will try some SecondSkinAudio products on the inside of the cab.. I had a heat stroke coming back from the Black Hills Cruiser Classic in my FJ40 once so doing everything i can to be able to drive this in sandals and not burn my feet!
Once the Al's heat and noise dried, it was time to add some Raptor i had sitting around. I used Al's inside the rear bed and under the rear bed. I can tell you after using both, i like the Al's Liner better. Softer, thicker, more flexible. While it appears the Cab is doing some Dr Who time travel there is approx a week in these pictures.

Great work! Do you know if that Al's stuff would provide a bit of anti-oil canning to something like the metal roof in my '63 45? It has the 6 ribs, but between the ribs there's some (although less now that I've worked it a bit with heat) shallow oil canning which I figured would be noisy on washboard. I would most likely brush it on the inside then overcoat with textured paint. (And we're talking maybe 20 sq. ft so only need a 1/2 gallon or so) Thoughts?

your best bet is this type of brace from @miker
This will hopefully quiet it down but i don't anticipate any structural integrity added.
I will be shooting something like it on the roof panel tho, which will be a bit.

Next smaller project I have put off for a while is the tailgate inner cover.

I needed an adult to assist so I reached out to @2fpower. He took some time away from one of his small Covid drywall projects and talked me off the ledge. This is an inner cover for the single wall FZJ79 tailgate. Dub design, if anything slides in the bed and hits the tailgate it will show as a dent on the outside! I had @Chef ‘s body guy brake me a stainless cover. Kelly did a little trim job, and I was off to drill some holes and make it fit. I’m putting logistic track on the top of the tailgate for tie down points and also to secure the cover to the tailgate. I also needed to clearance the holes for the Tailgate latches and chains. I HATE drilling stainless. I actually had a bruise on my chest from leaning into the drill. I made my first trip to the hardware store during this Covid19 pandemic to get some Cobalt drill bits. Slow and steady wins the race but seriously, Took all week!

Next up on this smallish project was to remove the stickers.. Little heat gun action but it didn’t remove all the adhesive. So a little D/A action, and scuff and clean the tailgate and we are ready for paint. The actual tailgate will get epoxy, a little high build where the logo went, some sealer, color and clear.

The Stainless cover will be scuffed/sanded, epoxied and bedliner that matches the cab/bed.

I also reached out to a Toyota logo vender that was able to scale down the Toyota logo to the correct size for the tailgate. Ordered 2, one for @2fpower and one for me. I am going with a reflective charcoal.

So.. Cab work..
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
Exterior of the cab. She had a little pitting, nothing horrible as she is over 50.. Little high build, sealer, Color, clear..

clear after the base.. Run Forrest.. Run.... I tried a larger needle on the gun, didn't work for me! Major run which you will see.. This run could be seen from 10feet away!

So.. Google to the rescue to learn how to fix a run.. Let me tell you this, it was close.. But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades..
I gave it a try, cut too deep, sanded it down and fixed it correctly..

Since I only have limited space in my garage and my homemade paintbooth, next is the tailgate and bib.. Lets focus on the bib. So those that have been around FJ40's a while see a pattern.. In the vintage iron we all know one guy that has a pre-75 era FJ style vehicle that has a crease where the hood has had an unplanned visit with the roof.. This occurs when one forgets the side latches. Toyota addressed this issue in later models with a safety latch for the hood. Simple addition but needed.. Little help from @2fpower and we had a donor bib from his parts stash. Blasting, Epoxy, high build, sealer, paint, clear.. It takes a little longer in real life than in the pictures.

Tailgate was in this batch but also I wanted a functional pickup that i could secure junk in my truck. Enter "Logistic Track" to the rescue. pretty cool product. If you look at the last picture in this set you can see where there is single stage color matched Logistic track mounted on the rails and a few spots in the bed. Tailgate cover is not ready for installation yet. no clear on the inside of the tailgate as it will be covered later.

Next up, @2fpower happens to be rebuilding a few windshield hinges right now for us. Before attempting the rebuild he demonstrated how to utilize an electrolysis tank. Thought, why not give this a shot.. Work smarter not harder. Before and after pics. Since I"m back in the office full time let stuff de-rust itself..

Ingredients for this project
a bucket, some scrap steel out of the scrap steel pile, some laundry booster available at the local Ace Hardware and a power supply
i tried trading my "smart" battery charger off to my father and taking his "dumb" battery charger, but apparently his had some brains.. So Amazon to the rescue for a power supply. Figure, we can test Ham radios etc as well with this.
Amazon product ASIN B0002BA570Put the Postitive lead on the Anode, let it sit and think about what it has done..
I probably could have scavenged a power supply from a dead computer but it was easier to hit buy it now on my phone.

Science is Amazing... when you pull the part out, take a garden hose with some pressure and it typically blows most of the remaining paint off, as well as cleans all the gook off.

I will look into it. I had not even noticed if that was an option. it really is a square peg in a round hole. yes, tilt the bib forward, lift up. I have both styles at the house, newer one piece and the older 2 piece bib hinges.
The old style is just retro cool.. I'll see if i can noodle on a bushing to tighten it up. I have bushings to fix the windshield and hood hinges.

Memorial Day Movie Marathon, Looking at a really low miles, good running 3fe but extremely dirty and needs a refresh.. So, lets get to it.. Lots of labeling, pulling of parts to clean and repaint, stripped it down to a bare block.

Injectors are off to Fuel Injector Specialists - Home - Wheat Ridge, CO I sent 2 full sets of injectors off, 12 fuel injectors and 2 cold start injectors with the hope that i can get back 8 fuel injectors cleaned, flow tested etc and 2 cold start injectors cleaned, flow tested etc.
Head just went away with @2fpower to get 1.84 & 1.50 Stainless valves , springs, retainers, seals etc and let them tap the oil galley plug and install the plug with locktite.
The rest will be cleaned and painted or replaced.

Standing joke on the movie in the background. I had to leave it on to annoy Jenn upstairs.

Stay tuned for the dress up portion. It will be nice to work with clean parts after the block is cleaned up and painted.
