Dang, you young wiper-snapper are quick.....

If it weren't for you dag-gone kids, I would of gotten away with it!

I am slow at projects on it so once I start it takes a while before it comes out again, so it is mostly in the garage and not on the road
That beautiful 40 that used to be at the tattoo shop across from churches chicken is gone in Detroit now. So we could use some LC beauty in joe town

My fjc next to it

Hello,

I would like to introduce myself to this group. Me and my family live in US for five years and moved here from Czech Republic, we really enjoyed the stay here and we did a lot of travel around US. The last trip was to Alaska this year which was really incredible and I can say that you guys have a wonderful country to explore.

This is our last year in US and we are moving back to Europe, we decided to go visit the place where my wife is from (she is Russian) and she actually didn't go home for 25 years and didn't see her mom for that long. I don't blame her as she was born in East Siberia (Magadan) Magadan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia where conditions are very harsh. So we decided to make a big road trip to Russia - ship the car to Vladivostok and drive it to Magadan and then take the road back to Europe.

After months of sarching on forums and deciding between Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, 100 LC, 80 LC the final choice was to go with LC80. It didn't take me long to find one which I think is in pretty decent shape (verified by Robbie).

The car was from Arizona so one Friday I took the day off and flew to Phoenix. Without any preparation and spare tools (only with spare belts and coolant) I have driven 1500 miles in three days. I enjoyed the car and even had a little stop in Denver where I met Robbie to inspect the car.

Robbie's statement was that the car was decent deal and gave me a list to work on:
  • new starter contacts
  • new power steering pump or reseal it
  • replace u-joints and grease the boots
  • wheel bearing repack on all four
  • radiator replacement
  • alternator brushes replacement
The car is having 850J with some spacer in the front and 35 tires. While I like the look the handling is not the best, also bear in mind that we will have the roof top tent installed and also will carry some parts on the roof so having 4'' lift with raised center of gravity is not the best.

Robbie also suggested that I do the head gasket prior to the departure (June) and either regear or down size to 33' tires. I think that I will go to 2.5'' OME suspension kit and 33 Toyo M/T tires. The reason is the high center of gravity and also availability of big tires in Russia and Mongolia.

So far past week I have took of the carpet and cleaned everything, I replaced the starter contacts and also replaced alternator brushes. Next I want to tackle the radiator with new water pump and power steering pump.

I hope to see some of you some time to discuss and chat about this amazing vehicle, I live in Overland Park KS.

Congrats on the purchase. Looks like a nice 40th.

Thanks, it came with ARB drawer system in the back and Kaymar rear bumper with double tier swings. Dual battery system from IBC I think. The front bumper is TJM.

IF you are pulling the radiator, and if you have any oil in front of the engine, change the front crank pully seal and the oil pump seal. perfect time to do it.

This was done:

"Found oil pump cover leaking and trani oil cooler lines leaking. Removed and replaced both front lower trani oil cooler hoses and replaced front oil pump cover seal and replaced front crank seal, replaced all drive belts and replaced destributer o-ring and added new coolant, please advise that top op tank has been previously repaired and may leak in the future not leaking at this time. "

Very nice rig, and nicely setup. Congrats!

It's 850J/863 w/L shocks (OME) , I don't like the big tires so will go with 33's - 285/75/16.

Nice rig! Sounds like you are hitting all the right pm stuff before your trip.

On a different note, let me know if you decide to sell those 35's. I may be interested depending on condition, brand, etc. I have been thinking about going to 35's from my 33's.

What tires do you have , we might swap them probably. As I say bigger tires are not really good option for a trip we plan. We will not be doing some hardcore four wheeling. Off course that there are sections where the road is basically offroad but I don't really thing that we need 35's. Also getting 35 tires in these countries would be harder then 33's.

What I am not sure is that what needs to be done for me to put 33's there is a lot of suspension work done by PO stop brackets, caster correction etc.

Looks like some spacer also in the front, CC and some stop bracket.

I don't know if I should keep it there or remove it when putting 33's .

Hard to say without trying. If interested, at some point we could just swap wheels and tires so you can drive it around to get an idea of what/where you are at with lift/handling, etc.

Just wanted to mention, if somebody needs any help of any sort I am more then willing to come by. I need to learn more about the Land Cruiser so this would benefit me also.

My LC80 has the OME 2 1/2 with heavies in the front and mediums in the rear. It has the OME castor correction bushings installed. I set it up for long distance trips and it handles great.

Not sure about the 850J's and 863's. Someone with more knowledge might chime in with more lift height on those?

You could test drive mine just to get an idea on different setups.

just remove the coil spacers. leave the caster correction more caster makes it track/center better but will leave you with a heavier feeling steering wheel. part of the luxury side is light steering feel (very little caster) which is why there are so many vibration issues. i've run up to 7 on past vehicles with bigger tires amazing. i still miss my CJ on 37's 7* caster. sway bar drop is really just to make it flex better. it shouldn't change much either way
