Catching up...

A few of the guys showed interest while we were out at Mahoney. I lowered the base price on the part I have for sale. https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/341312-new-box-80-series-milford-cargo-barrier.html

I think we should try to get together again sometime in late August or September. I don't know if this will be another picnic or a trip to Tuttle or other.

The water levels in Lake McConaughy are supposed to be up 23' from where they were last year. This means it is more than 80% full. The beaches will be narrow, but there should still be some fun to be had.

It might be a fun trip up there to camp and play. Maybe a leave Thursday night come back Sunday type trip?

As for people on other areas of the board - I think we should invite anyone who wants to come. We are not a TLCA chapter and this will not be an 'organized' event. I don't think we should spam the other tech areas for organizing it though. So, once we figure out IF we're doing something, WHEN we're doing something and WHAT we're doing, then lets simply put a link back to this planning page in our signatures or something like that - i.e. not be obnoxious about it.

If we do wind up with a couple of dozen people interested in making something more formal, then maybe it will be time to ask Woody for a club board space. Right now, we're a pretty thin and disorganized bunch. So, thank you again to the mods for your allowing us to retain this thread.

Lake McConaughy I heard is supposed to reach capacity at some point with all the rain we have gotten and all the snow out in WY this past winter. That would be closer to my neck of the woods. I will try and make it to whatever works for everyone else.

Well, this may be more interesting than hanging out eating hot dogs. It's relatively local for most of us - and has door prizes. What's not to like?

A day event from a Lincoln vehicle agnostic 4x4 club:
2010 4X fest Details

I went to one of these several years ago and ended up joining - they're a good bunch. The prime rib holiday party was a good time too. It would be cool to have a row of 80s and LX450s hanging out there.

Right now I'm planning on making it there - it is a month out. Is anyone else interested?

Interested....YES. Commitment is tough since I recently sold my soul to Tony the Tiger. If I'm not working I'll be there. That sounds fun. If that's a Saturday, I won't know for sure until the day before. (Someone has to make your cereal) That's one reason I tried like hell to flex the LX in Aspen. Time is now limited. A gathering for this event sounds awesome! Too bad Co is a long drive for multiple rigs to make. Holy Cross trail in Summit County and Road 21 West of there sound great. I couldn't reserve enough time from Aspen to do either one. Check them out on traildamage.com if you get a chance. Pearl Pass was cool, but way too easy for a mostly stock LX. Use of the lockers was more of a luxury than a necessity. The other two break Heeps easily. Probably more suited for 80's.

Oh yeah, :flipoff2: to all you Midwest guys! And to JROB--> Post pics of your new roof setup! Nathaniel at Tallowpot is one cool dude with a nice rig.

I am planning on making it up, sounds like a lot of fun! :steer:

I am working on it I need to get some more bolts to get everything up. I will post'em up soon, thanks for picking them up for me.

August 21st - less than 2 weeks away. The event has gotten -a lot- bigger...

Rock crawl
BBQ
Door prizes (bring a can of food for the mission for entry)
7 bands

I'm looking forward to it!

I plan to show. Probably in one of my fj40s, even though I would like to bring my 80. I might bring two 40s, so the equals 80, right?
Man my 80 will probably seek some kind of revenge for that joke (and having to stay home), I can feel it.

This isn't restricted to 80s. From the sounds of it there will be up to 3 local 4x4 clubs represented in addition to CORA.

I only posted it here in 80s tech because we have this one thread where I know I can get the attention of the few guys I know in the area. So far the mods have been gracious enough to allow this one thread for local organizing and local tech for our 80s. It has been invaluable for setting us up to do at least one birf job and trade tools back and forth. Building local contacts, confidence and knowledge - Thanks again mods!

If you know more people on IH8MUD who might want to know about the event in Lincoln or this tech thread - go for it.

You don't have to show up in an 80 - it would be very cool to have Toyota vehicles of all types show up in numbers. Who knows, we might even have enough to start thinking about a local branch to TAC or Rising Sun or something more or less formal.

So, if you have some local buddies - point them to this thread and lets start actually doing more than nodding to each other as we drive by admiring the other's vehicle choice.

Fun stuff.

I attended two years ago. It is inside city limits, so it was a gathering of the rigs for show and obstacles. There were two Cruisers that year, my Cadillac powered fj40 and a stock ZJ80 that lost its bumpers and rockers on the obstacles as the owner floored it time and time again through and over. It was sad, but hey it wasn't my Cruiser to ruin. He proved his point, his wife's grocery getter was a gettin it! The Jeep gazers where sure havin fun with it.

Sounds like the event has been growing, wonder where the "post trail run" is going to be?
I will be there to represent a Toyota LC of some sort.

Grench, was it you that has a supercharger on your 80?

Mine is SC'd. But my truck has never been to this event.

I attended a few years ago driving my Z28 - the 80 was torn down in my brother-in-law's garage at the time for a HG change and SC install. I stopped by in the morning and spent the next 10 hours working on it.

I hadn't heard about someone flogging an 80 last year. Funs fun, but the intentional destruction of a nice vehicle? Kind of silly.

The flogging was a few years ago, towards the end of the event.

I asked a friend about the trail run that is listed and I guess Pioneers 4wheelers or one of those clubs do have some land outside of town they have been wheeling on. Thats good news, I might need to join a club after all.

I have at least one other Cruiser friend that will be bringing his stretched Fj40 with a 4BT. So Grench, we will be there if you show up. I would like to see and find out more about your super charger.

If he was doing what you describe to the :princess:'s 80... That could have made for a very difficult, "Honey I'm home!" moment.

P4W -did- have some land SouthEast of Lincoln. I wheeled out there a few times and it was fun. Unfortunately the lease expired and the owner declined to renew. So, I think they're looking for 'club land' again. With two other clubs involved and CORA running the event though, I wouldn't be surprised if someone set something up just for this weekend.

I plan to be there. I have a family thing that will likely run late the night before. Then there's kids and dogs to round up, etc... I'm going to try to be there before noon. I'm fairly easy to spot. There won't be very many Moonglow Grey FZJ80s with full bumpers and a LineX roof there.

That reminds me. I need to fix my broken CB antenna if there is going to be a trail run. Always something.

From what I got on the P4W forums, the are formerly knows as Pioneer Prairie where P4W had their lease is going to be opened up for the post-CORA event trail run.

I don't know what they're calling the place now - but it was/is a fairly fun obstacle and play area.

Hey all, just wanted to let you guys in the Omaha/Lincoln area know that I have a set of white flares (missing a tab here and there) and my factory rook rack I just pulled off for parts in case someone is in need of anything.

I'm located in Springfield (about 15 miles South of Omaha). I'll be gone until sometime next week and if no one needs any of the parts they'll be tossed out since I don't have the room to store them.

Probably best to email me if you want any or all of it since I'll be out of town: wrhull82@gmail.com

I don't have roof racks on either of mine - and don't want one. However, for the other guys that do - this is a good chance to get a 3rd cross member for your existing rack for better load distribution.

No flares - no roof rack - sounds like you're starting into a serious build path. How far along is it and what is the planned end state?

I've had the truck for a little over two months now and didn't really plan on doing much to it (I think that's how it always starts), but just sort of ended up doing a few things right off the bat.

On it's first road trip it started to overheat pretty quickly, I replaced the phh and other hoses (btw, Inland truck parts stocks Gates Greenstripe hoses), fan clutch, thermostat and flushed the system and it seemed to be fine around town. On the second road trip it was fine for hours, but slowly started to get hot so when I got it home I replaced the radiator. Now it will sit at 190-195 all day with the A/C cranked at 80 mph.

As far as the flares, I noticed a considerable amount of rust behind them so I pulled them all to take care of it. Once they were off and the rust had been dealt with I decided that I'll be going the Arden Toyota route and lining the truck since it's going to Colorado with me for Grad school and will be seeing a whole lot of time off the beaten path camping and such. The body is rough anyway, so it will cure (read: cover) a lot of sins.

Oh and the roof rack, well I pulled that when I found a used Conn Ferr rack in Bellevue for $75 and 6 gutter mounts for $80

Immediate future plans include lining the truck tan, 2.5" OME Med lift, and 285 duratracs. Med term plans are sliders and a better skid plate and long term is some sort of decent front bumper and a winch to go with it. It doesn't have lockers, but it hasn't seemed to have been a huge detriment thus far so I suppose I'll burn that bridge on down the road.
