Nebraska FZJ80 owner here too...

I'm in Norfolk. I've had my L C since the 80'sCOOL days. Nice to meet you all.

If you read the thread then you know I'm here in Omaha. There is another email thread that I'm going to try to get migrated to this thread since voices are starting to pop up for something like this.

A few of you are from out West of Lincoln. In the email thread we had been discussing a Mahoney gathering.
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission - Parks - Area Search
It is about half way between Lincoln and Omaha.

I'm not opposed to meeting in Lincoln. I grew up there.

Current proposed date is May 8th. If you all want to meet at noon, I could have a camping grill, hot dogs and a fridge full of sodas with me.

I'm open to suggestions though.

I am pretty sure I can make May 8th at noon in Mahoney work, I hope others can make it!

I can make the 8th at noon.

Chiming in late. Sorry. Glad 1st and 2nd didn't work. I'm in KC for some races that weekend. Aaron and I were going to tear down his front axle and birfs that weekend, then pushed it back to the 8th and 9th weekend. I don't see why we can't get it done on Sunday though...??? Where you at Corn Man? I have my park stickers. Do you think NE Parks and Rec would oppose to a birf job in the picnic area?

We take the camper out to Mahoney a few times a year for quick weekends. Parking issues..probably wouldn't work the best for this outing though.

Lincoln is okay too. Went to Spring game last weekend. Nothing smelled funny then.

Hey JBOB, any relation to JROB? I'm West of Papillion. Near the new ballpark.

Ben--I was thinking JUNE 5-6 not May for rebuild...unless that was my mothers day present! How did you know that was exactly what I wanted?! So thoughtful!

Wife is working so I plan on coming with the boys. Can I get the park stickers at the entrance still?

I'm pretty sure you can get the stickers at the gate. Bring change like you're the pizza man though - they don't typically have change for big bills.

I think we're going to make a family outing of it - which makes it a good excuse to bring both trucks.

Everyone put in the number of people you're bringing so I know how many hot dogs & sodas to bring.

Grench = 4

Count me for 2 adults and 2 crazy little kids. Need more grills/charcoal/anything??? Wife's on call that weekend so she may end up in the car on the phone half the time. I have some tailgating games to bring. Maybe donate some LC parts for winner prizes?????? Corny? Let me know what to bring. Hate freeload'n.

Grench 4
BADM 4

Keeping it simple. Just dogs & sodas. I'm only using a little 1.5 square feet gas grill, but I have proven before that I can feed people hot dogs off of it about as fast as any food line can move. If you want to bring a side dish that would be very cool. Chips is a side dish too. I you bring something that requires utensils, give me a heads up. Right now i was planning just plates and paper towels.

Bring your games - that should be fun. I was planning to have my kids bring a soccer ball.

I wasn't planning any giveaways. My plan is to let the kids play together and the parents chat. If we're going to have any hope to hang out or to go on trips as a group, we have to figure out if our wives and kids can stand each other.

I need to scout out Mahoney this weekend and figure out which end of the park we're going to try to be in. I figure we'll need room to line up 8 vehicles +/- and a field for the kids to run in.

Mark, I'll be alone when we all meet. Don't worry about a soda for me, but I might eat a hot dog. I'll bring some chips.

On a side note, I think I saw your wife in the red truck on Wednesday in Millard. No roof rack or spoiler, with running boards (or step sliders maybe) correct? I was in my car, so she wouldn't have noticed me.

Here's a link to the Mahoney map pdf.

No relation to Jrob that I know of, but we will find out when if he shows up. My plans for the Cruiser I was going to buy fell through. So as of this moment, but hopefully before May 8th I find one, I am Cruiser-less. If its alright I will be the odd one out and roll up in my 4Runner. If its not a problem put me down for two. Oh yeah and my dog, but she doesnt need anything. I will make sure that we bring something good, not sure what though, but we will.

Sounds good. Nobody has to bring anything, but if you do bring something, bring to share or hide it in your truck. ;)

That was probably my wife. There are a couple of red 80s here in town, but I think her's is the only one that never had a rack or spoiler on it.

Take your time finding an 80. All 3 times I was shopping for one I had horrid luck finding one locally. First one I was living in Lincoln and found a '92 in Bellevue. The second one I bought on Ebay from a guy in KC based on nothing but pictures. I overpaid and it had some condition issues. The third one I found on cars.com - it was a soccer mom mobile from the Hamptons - i.e. in New York. Price was right. I should have flown out and driven it back. I shipped it instead and had $1700 damage to work out with the shipping company - and shipping it fully insured was not cheap at all. So, take your time.

You're welcome in whatever you want to drive in. It would give you a good chance to see different 80s and LX450s to see what the condition differences are, where to look and what to be concerned and not concerned about.

So far I have:
Grench 4 people. Maybe 2 '96 FZJ80s Grey and Red.
BADM 4 people. LX450
Ivan80 1 person. FZJ80
JBOB56 2 people. 4 runner
Corn Man 3 people. LX450
JROB80 ? people. ?

I love it when a plan comes together. :D

Sorry late on this I actually just got married this last weekend so count me and the :princess: for a 2 count!

Excited to meet everyone! Also if you need an extra grill or anything let me know I have a little camping grill as well.

I will be bringing my 96'80!

JBOB, I spent about a year testing local 80's at Performance Toyota, etc. Then I remembered my regular car salesman worked at Lexus of Omaha for a very long time. He is now at Markel BMW. Of course he'd rather sell you a Porsche/Range Rover combo, but he's a straight shooter and a hell of a guy for a salesperson. No BS. Called him and told him exactly what I wanted. Took a little time, but he scored! His advantage is he initially sold lots of LX's to clients the first time around, and he knows who owns them. Penny pinching got me nowhere. Bill Hess got me the truck I wanted at a fair price. If you go there, DEMAND HIM! Be patient, he's the **CDAN** of car sales there.

OR if you can handle an older one, there is a red one on Craigslist locally for $2200. It's a '92 with 190K. Not my favorite sauce, but the price is dropping fast and it might be worth beating the hell out of.

Good luck and thanks GRENCH for organizing!

Hint: the nicer areas at Mahoney tend to fill up fast on weekends. Brush up on your Spanish!!!! :)

I haven't looked at it of course - I found this listing by checking for the red one BADM noted.

toyota land cruiser

Seller claims it as a '93 with 178K and FR/RR/C diff locks for $2600.

JBOB - are you looking for something 'nice' for the :princess: to drive or something rough that you can beat the snot out of?

YMMV
