There should be plenty of parking at the Tahoe staging area. I’ve never trailered to the Rubicon but I see a lot of tow rigs parked there. Shade is important at the springs. A lot of camp spots are on exposed granite (and a lot of the shaded spots will be taken by the time we get there. I run an awning, a cheap Chinese awning that is tucked in tight and has some scuff marks on it from the trail. There is a good chance you might damage your awning on the trail as it appears to stick out quite a bit. Here is photo of mine. It tucks in behind the snorkel and is no wider than the snorkel (and cost less than a $100)

Thanks for that. I have other awning brackets that could bring it in an inch or two. I never liked these for this reason, they were just (unnecessarily) beefy.

My name is Chris, first time Rubicon. Bringing a neighbor/friend along with me. I have a 95 80 series with full armor. Getting my offset/clearance dialed today..

I was planning on dropping my tow rig off Wednesday night at the Tahoe side staging area.. any reason I can't/shouldn't do that?

Also - is there a decent amount of shade where we will be camping? Thinking I could ditch the 270 awning if so.

Nice flares! (They might not be so nice in a few days from now). Aside from general maintenance, I always check my knuckle studs every day on the trail and do recommend unbolting your front sway bar (if you have not reinforced the tabs that attach it to the axle). They tend to rip off the axle and then break your front brake lines.

Thanks. I have front disconnects. Will pick up an E-12 socket. RIP Flares...

E-12 socket? I use this tool for knuckle studs. It lives in my driver door pocket next to my winch controller.

Day one was .. interesting. Day two was a lot more fun. Day three going out Cadillac was great, actually. If you asked me day one if I would go back, it was a no. Day three was a most-likely :)

Hope everyone had a good trip. Would love to hear how the run went? Did casual cruiser make it ok? Really bummed I was unable to join you. My 40 is put together and ready for some test runs. Looking forward to next year!
Cheers!

Dom driving!

What happened on day 1.

Is there anywhere that there are more pics of the rigs that attended Rubithon this year?

You managed to get Ray really dirty at the top of Walker I see... Glad it all got together ok. Long side is a new one for me to see
Ray was really great. It was like traveling with a personal pit mechanic. I was amazed at how he just jumped in there. It took a ton of burden off me (though it was a pretty routine repair).

Unfortunately, my photographers (including myself) got a bit distracted trying to spot folks and then simply were not there to take photos after sending everyone ahead while we fixed stuff (and waited for an axle).

For me personally, it was more about being out of my element with the abilities of my rig. I was a bit overloaded and smashing every rock that we passed, rocking, dragging and slipping. It also took us about 10 hours to go from loon to Buck, and I believe we estimated roughly 5 hours so that was kind of a bummer. I was new to this level of trail, but the guides did a great job to get us through mostly unscathed. I did lose five out of six fender flares lol.
