You have me scared in THAT YOU THINK THAT I WILL SOLVE THIS. I can tell you I am making this my mission but I was not or Comm guy just our sniper and corpsman. So don't hold your breath for me company up with the answer but I thought that piece of info from another member was gold stating that the proper length for FM reception for an antenna is the magic number of 28". I think that is golden. AND WE WILL come high water or hell we will bring FM reception to our 100 series! I am not stopping until I put together something that equals are stock system or is better. The fight continues!!

YOU are always allowed to ask me question about the same mud and blood we have been though. I do find in funny (other SeAL teammates do NOT find it funny and get extremely physical) when someone is wear a SeAL t-shirt. I live in San Diego there are former SeALs all around the city, you would think if you were going to pretend to be a SeAL you would choose an area as far away from Virginia or San Diego. Like I said I saw yesterday -a man in a black polo shirt with the trident and the SERE school graduate shirt - that got my blood to boil b/c SERE was the hardest training evolution for ME. But I kept my mouth shut.

When I was younger and we had just been issued our "classified" LOL digital pattern uniforms. I saw a SGT wearing them in Tijuana and I asked him how long he had served (knowing he was not a former Marine) I was in a bad mood told him to remove his blouse and then took my EDC knife and cut the uniform in-half , put in in the trash can and told him to go straight home and remove and BURN those pants and if I saw you with them on again I would remove them with my knife while they were still on you and I would "try" not to sever your penis or balls or the entire area off. But I am more mellow now unless a guy is telling war stories and then I just make them leave the bar and take their ID so they know I know where the live. But for the most part I let the wannabes not bother me. What a terrible life to live. Maybe I am too soft I just figure that the ones who have been there do not talk about it. I think my excuse is being the Corpsman and having to write up the entire story (Nurse's Note) that is troubling the Marine or SeAL and I am then forced to bring in my own experience, SO I have heard and repeated my experiences more times than I can count. After I decided which M.D they should see than I escort them to the Doctor's office and wait outside so they can tell me things that they didn't want to tell the Dr. B/C I try to teach these guys that their is NO doctor -patient confidentiality IF you want to go from the armed forces to a Federal job (FBI< ATF< Secret Service, etc ,etc) b/c you will have a paper to sign that says you willing to release ALL of your meetings with the Doctor & psychologist. I knew this before I entered the armed forces b/c I had graduated Law School and was the best man in a friend's wedding who was a rookie ATF agent at the time. I am sure there will be people that are Doctors or Lawyers that will tell me I am wrong and all I can say is UNLESS you have worked for one or two of the companies I have worked for you do NOT know the whole truth. Just as I am more than willing to admit I know about 1% of what goes on above my pay-grade when it comes to current situations.

I apologize to YOU for my skepticism. Like I said before, everyone is SeAL theses days behind the keyboard.
As for the companies I was w Blackwater when Prince ran it and my last excursion lol was with Triple Canopy. (Never again btw. I can give you specifics via email if you want to know more). No offense to any Green Beret in the audience the fault was local intelligence and not the outstanding elements of the Trident Group.
Currently I'm considering bringing to date my VSO/CSO and MSC with SAC thru the Trident Group. I want to stay current as a maritime security specialist. Not really interested in anti piracy but it never hurts to keep up with what's current and the chance to meet gentlemen like yourself in those courses.
Listen! even older units can dream lol we are never out of the fight!
I considered once changing my signature to:
Sometimes Late! Within a few feet! But will never give up! Lol

First of all since most antenna I have looked at are either 2' or 3', does that mean I but an Antenna which is 24" or 36"?? 2" is closer to the "magic" number of 28", so therefore the 2' or ?? THIS problem which out of ALL the issues we have with our Land Cruisers which are important I am devoting hours and hours on a stupid FM antenna. DOES anyone in the RADIPO world know if I new head unit would solve my problem. I al in the market for a new head unit, so I am not THAT crazy to buy a new head unit ONNLY for the FM reception. I was thinking of getting a double-DIN with Sirus radio buttons built in and possible navigation system built in (expensive)

Thank you for the update and if you have time to spare if you look at the new AIRTEC/TJM snorkel (very aerodynamic and makes my engine completely silent now, does not allow for an antenna. It is a trade off you make by installing this snorkel which so far I give a 5 stars to it (out of 5 stars being the best LOL) I find it mind blowing that some one in our community has not had this exact problem (as this snorkel becomes more popular on 100 series Land Cruisers) and/or someone like yourself that is educated on the length of the antenna. Now I just need to buy and try and try NOT to waste more money to try to come up with a solution. I would prefer if someone smarter than me in this field would say that they had my same problem and "this is what I need to do to get my FM reception back to at least stock) on a side note I was going to install Sirus or another satellite radio UNTIL I learned that you have to turn your FM dial to a specify station to get their Satellite radio. I am about ready to buy 12 D batteries and an old school ghetto blaster and put that on my front seat. This problem CAN't Be this Hard to solve. I ask you fellow ih8mud Gods to send me your wisdom and help me brainstorm & solve this problem. PLEASE.
Sincerely your frustrated and confused Land Cruiser for life owner

CJ, if your head unit worked OK with the oem antenna prior to the snorkel installation, it should be gtg following your adding the snorkel.

28" is an ideal number...I can get local FM with no issues with the antenna lowered to a foot or so to avoid branches off-road.

How 'bout installing your original antenna on the driver's side front fender, as I think Toyota does on right-hand drive vehicles??

B3AST: I have this info so far.
We currently on carry one AM/FM antenna:

http://www.wearecb.com/firestik-am-fm-antenna.htmlIt is typically a great improvement over stock antennas. It can be mounted on any 3/8 x 24 threaded bracket. It looks like this mount should fit your Land Cruiser on the fender where you described:

http://www.wearecb.com/auc11k-short-hood-mount-kit-cb-antenna.htmlYou will want to check the measurements to be sure. You will need an adapter to connect the cable to an AM/FM radio. That is listed here: (do we need the adapter or is the wire with the apadter aready should fit?)

do these pieces match your bracket or if i buy what this guy says to buy what other parts would I need to buy to make it fit your bracket. I also read on Multiple sites that Painting the all metal bracket will hurt our reception (I don't see why it should since we are connecting a wire to the antenna, but i Thought I would add that info. So when you get the time to measure your bracket please let me know if what is on this guys website will be a perfect fit or I will need to buy other parts to make it a solid connection. THANKS.. I am still waiting on more reply from guys in the RADIo industry. One guy said that the company his company sold would solve all my problems but the antenna was $110. I will send you the website if you want, but for know I am still loolking for a consensus of what these "experts" recommend for our situation. Like I stated before I am working on this the entire week until I get THE answer. CJ

The antenna cable has 2 conductors...the center wire that connects to the whip, and the braided shield which needs a good connection to the body...or at least be bottom of the bracket. Bracket itself also needs a good electrical connection to the body. So you could paint the bracket, but mask the areas where contact is needed.

@cj007sd
I think the setup you found is the way to go. Clearly the seller of it knows his stuff, is a proven kit PLUS its way cheaper than the Gamiviti bracket alone!
Just be adviced that the clearance between antenna and fender is very small (see my prev post on it). I suggest asking the seller to measure the space once the antenna is installed to see if you have the clearance to mount. Otherwise you'll end up like me: buying a cheap antenna that fits but its not primo.
@hankinid
I guess I need to try removing some paint before I discard my bracket. Thanks!

I was thinking the exact same thing - that I buy your bracket but use the rest of his parts. I might add one of those flexible base attachments, so if I hit a treee the antenna will not break or bend and just be f;legible. I think WE are closser to solving this common problem for SNORKEL purchasers. With all the hours we have invested in research and labor - thank god for this great Forum where everyone shares their results (good & bad) for free. CJ

B3A5T - I agree with you 100% about making sure their bracket will fit. Since you have had brackets that did and didn't work. If you go to the website with the picture of the Short Hood Mount Kit for CB Antenna - and you click on one of those small pictures below it - one of them shows you the bracket with every part and angle of the bracket with a measurement. NOT to give you work to do but only b/c you had the prior experience of what will and what will not work. Would you be so kind in your free time -NO HURRY AT ALL- to look at the measurements and tell me if you think that bracket will fit. That same website makes a 2nd larger bracket with different measurements. THANK YOU again for your help. I think together we will solve this problem for every SNORKEL buyer out theres!!

No worries, I can check the only caveat is that I don't have my 100 rt now. I will be able to measure on Friday. But given that it will be the same -if you are in a hurry- you can do the same bc we have the same vehicle. Best thing to do is use a strip of cardboard box and do a mock up. By looking at the dimensions I think the bracket works (you can always bend it a bit to make it work) it's the base of the antenna that attaches to the bracket with its cable that may hit the fender.
The antenna that you posted has a 3/8 base, that's pretty good.

B3A5T - IN REGARD TO THE BRACKET YOU PURCHASED FROM GAMOVITE.COM - do you remmeber the PARTS# or anything else to look for to make sure I find the same one you used. I was hoping when you had time if you could look at this mount and tell me if you think it will work or if I should buy the one you have that you already know works.. Thank you for your time

Hi there, Im sorry I havent followed up. All I bought was the bracket from Gamiviti (the one for 100 series). The aerial I used was bought from a local AutoZone (not the best). Its a 13 inch rubber unit. Reason I had to go with it was that the better one I ordered had a long base that wouldnt fit. You will need to buy one that has a very short base past the mount (1/2 in or less to clear the fender). Add to the kit an aerlal cable extension so you are able to directly plug to your head unit. I have checked out your link for brackets and aerial. They are better priced and definitively better quality. There may be a need to modify the bracket for it to fit in the oem mounting points. My call may be to buy and try if you can return. Otherwise I would buy the Gamiviti (which fits) and the aerial from your supplier. Be advised that removing the plastics from under the fender is required and the brackets may pop, have some extras on hand to replace. Im interested in your result me self. Im considering replacing my aerial for a better quality one, just lke the ones you suggested.
Let me know if I can provide further assistance, I apologize for not following up.

BeA5T -I AM GOINg TO BUY THE SAME ONE YOU HAVE!!! on the paint on the bracket. What part of the bracket do I need to mask off to keep the reception clear? I have read on CB radio sites that talk about NOT painting the bracket to keep the reception undisturbed but I would guess you can paint the majority of the bracket but I want to find out what parts I need to mask off so the metal to metal connection stays clear- Maybe someone else on the forum here knows the answer?
ALSO I am worried about the "plastics under hood fender" I am lost why do I need to mess with the plastics? What am I missing here? I thought I just bolted the bracket to the OEM spot under the hood and I was done. and connected the FM/AM wire to the antenna and I was done. Now you have me worried! LOL Also do you remember what size and length, etc of the bolt, type of washer and nut you used to attach the bracket. I want to go with stainless steel so mine doesn't rust?
THANK YOU

The bracket needs to be bare any place it contacts metal on the antenna base, as well as bare under the top surface of the bracket where the bolt screws in. I'd also suggest a "star" washer under the bolt head where it makes contact with the bracket. You can touch-up the bare areas once the antenna is mounted and the bracket bolted to the top of the fender. End goal should be good conductivity between the antenna base and body via the bracket. I'd paint the entire bracket and then clean off paint where I needed contact.

hth and Semper Fi back at ya.

I suggest you follow @hankinid advice. I completely painted the bracket off the vehicle and the reception suffered.

About the plastic........at least in mine this is the easiest access point to the aerial cable. Another way i suppose is to connect your new cable to the back of the receiver and work your way out thru the fire wall to the engine bay. Of course I went the other route and plugged my new antenna to the cable already there (OEM) of the powered antenna. In order to do so I needed access to it and the fender well was the best option. The only bad thing was that some of the retainers "popped" so its best to have a few at hand to finish the job in one.

Keep of posted of your result!

Cheers

Thank you both of you guys with the info. I will let you all know when I finally get all the right parts ordered and installed. WIsh me luck

I screwed up b/c I forgot to mention that I needed the Bracket for the FM/AM antenna and therefore the hole needs to be smaller and in turn theGamiviti is made for CB radios and HA but not FM/AM. If anyone out there knows which bracket will work on the passenger side of a 2000 Land Cruiser and I would prefer if it was made by FIRESTIK, so that all my parts will be from the same company and therefore I should have no problems with them fitting. They seem to make a short hood bracket and tall hood bracket. If anyone has advice PLEASE let me know before I order it and make another mistake. Thanks

I searched and read a bunch of snorkel threads, and it seems like people are running this TJM Airtech snorkel with a Die Hard PM1 battery in the Slee dual battery tray on the passenger fender. I would like to see some pictures about how this all fits and clears under the hood if anyone can share something like that or point me in the direction of that info. Please.

I don't have a second battery yet, but there is tons of space and I'm almost 100% you'll encounter zero issues.

I have a second battery but using the Piranha tray.

@B3A5T Good to know that there is a lot of clearance.

@Wilsil I would still be interested to see pictures of your setup if you dont mind.

I've seen a bunch of pictures of the exterior of these snorkels, but not much under the hood. I am curious to see how they fit under the hood.
Thanks
