Looking for a place that has the right equipment to balance some old toyota tires. The trick is that the center hub is not a true circle. As such, you cannot balance it by the standard taper deal. You need to have a lug centric plate that basically looks like a steel plate with a hole in the center that will go onto the wheel balancer and then the 6 lug studs that will go into the lug holes and thus center the rim. I have tried most of the places in Johnson County with no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

Ahh, the good ol lug centric vs hub centric problem. Fought with this problem since I've had a tacoma. Usually I end up spending more time explaining things to the shops and showing them the actual TSB (TSB SU002-96) before they believe me. I would assume any Toyota dealership would have the Haweka adaptor to properly balance their wheels, since they issued the TSB. There used to be a place to look up shops that had the Haweka thingy.

Here ya go, found it http://www.gsp9700.com/search/FindLocations.cfm

Good luck, and I've run the Dynobeads, unimpressed, but I'll probably try them again as a last resort.

Molle cannot do it.

I found a place in lawrence that has the adapter..... In tire at 1801 w. 31st. I will try them out tomorrow and see if they can get it done right.

WOW.. What a pain.. Sorry for your trouble.. WEll.. Not really that sorry. :)

Thanks for the smile. (Larry town)

I have tried about half those on that sight. No-one has it. A couple had a 5 lug deal, not the 6 lug thing.

UPDATE: I sit corrected. Olathe toyota has them. Headed there tomorrow.... stand by for results...

have you tried Shore tire?

tires were delivered .. apparently the PO had sent 2 bent rims that had gotten blasted and powdercoated black. DANG.. oh well.. i can find more rims later.. sucks that i had em blasted and coated and didn't know they were bent..

any luck with Olathe Toyota?

They came back balanced. Wont know for a while how they roll. One rim bent too badly to balance. One bent and balanced.

Sent from my phone using IH8MUD

There is a mobile shop that straightens rims. 1 or 2 days a week they are parked in the back lot of the inifinty or volvo dealer off 103rd. had them do the fiat rims. dont know if they do steel http://awrsmidwest.com/

Guessing I need to dismount? What'd it cost? rough estimate if you happen to recall.. I'm really not going to spend a ton of time or $ trying to straighten a $30 rim. Probably make a nice hose hanger for the side of the house out of it or something.

Just take it to Walmart and ask them if they would take if off the rim for you. They usually do it for free if it is loose. If not, should be less than $5.
