Another con of LT tires is ride quality. In general LT tires ride much harsher due to heavier construction and higher pressures. It doesn’t bother me but I really notice it now as I just switched from my winter tires p metric to summer LTs two weeks ago ant it’s a much harder ride.

Thank you, but I'm a bit confused.

Wouldn't 116V XL Pirelli have a higher load index than the 115H so less air pressure necessary for for my LX's load? Or is it OEM size is OEM 33 pressure but the increase sidewall of the 115H lowers the pressure needed for the same load?

How does the does the XL affect the 116V rating? The XL would have a higher rating than non XL? If so how much limit is added/subtracted?

I'm babbling, but I almost had it until I looked at top and bottom simliar tire compares.

Oh I got it. The 116V XL max load is at 41PSI, while the 115V nonXL max load is at 35PSI. For the love of god I hope that's it.....

Not quite. I think the root cause of your lack of understanding is you are confusing many of the terms.

Load Rating (SL, XL, LL, etc.)
Load Index (115, 116, etc.)
Load Range (C, D, E)

Load Limit (yet another term) is what is used to determine the appropriate Recommended Cold Tire Pressure. It is the industry standard Load Limit/Tire Pressure reference tables (i.e. Load Inflation Tables) that determine the Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure.

If you are really interested, this is an excellent reference published by Toyo Tires and is based on the TRA (Tire and Rim Association) reference tables I use: https://toyo-arhxo0vh6d1oh9i0c.stac...ication_of_load_inflation_tables_20170203.pdf

How about LT275/70r18 BFG AT/KO's on factory wheels? Thanks in advance.

The Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure for LT275/70R18 tires on your LC200 (I assume :cautious:) is 41psi F/R.

Could I get a hypothetical reccomendation on Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/75R17 at a hypothetical over gross weight of 7960LB? Thanks

One question I had as well with a front weight of 3720lbs and rear of 4240 should I run the rear vs front tires at different pressures? Thanks

Sorry, no more "hypotheticals" or recommendations for any vehicle above factory GVWR.

If you want to do the calcs yourself, all the info you need is in this publication from Toyo Tires: https://toyo-arhxo0vh6d1oh9i0c.stac...ication_of_load_inflation_tables_20170203.pdf

The recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure for the 285/50R20 112V Michelin Latitude Tour HP tires on your LX is 33psi Front/Rear.

Stupid question: I think I understand how to use the tables to determine the recommended cold tire inflation pressure for a given tire size and vehicle. For example, on a stock LX570, seems like a P-metric 285/55/20 is about 33psi (on the door placard); using a LT 285/55/20 interpolates to about 47psi. But I'm not seeing how this relates to the vehicle specs like Curb (5995lbs) or GVWR (7275lbs) or max payload (1411lbs). How was the original stock spec of 33 psi chosen?

paging @gaijin
just installed 275/60R20 KO2's in load range "D" on my '09 LX.
Discount Tire set them at 37 or 38 psi

thanks in advance!

I'll bet those are LT275/60R20 ;)

The Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure on your LX570 is 40psi F/R.

Dan I have the BFG AT/KO2's 285/55/20. Recommended tire pressure on the LX570 is 43 psi front and rear. Won't hurt to run 47 psi just a little stiffer ride. I run the ECT/Power button on and keep it in comfort mode. Works great for me.

Utah, thanks! I just got the KO2s installed. Not sure what pressure the shop used; I’ll check later when at home. I’ll fill to 43 as you suggest. The usual load on top of curb weight for me is about 600-700 lbs.

Tires seem good on highway so far. No appreciable increase in noise. And seems to handle well.

Still need to confirm wet handling and braking.

No vibration observed, at least to highway speeds.

I weigh about 240 lbs and the wife is 120 lbs and I might have 50 lbs of stuff in my LX. On trips about 250 lbs of stuff so total 600-650 lbs. I bought these at the 285/55/20 size instead of going with the much cheaper 275/60/20'. The 285 tread width is over 1" wider then the 275's. Should make a big difference in wet handling and braking. I got these after a lot of research after I hydroplane on the stock Dunflops during a huge rain storm while on a freeway through Arkansas. Other drivers hydroplane off the road when and where I did. :(. My front clipped the side of another hydroplane vehicle while I was doing 360's in the mud in the median, $19k in damage and no sheet metal was even damaged, just the plastic front, headlights and radar, also got a new radiator because a fin was dinged. Glad they used a OEM replacement parts.

So happy to finally have ATs on my rig.
@gaijin for the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac
  • Size: LT275/65R18
  • Load Range: E
  • Serv. Desc: 123/120Q
should it be 45 psi?

@gaijin - I'm trying to understand the charts you posted earlier (you know, feed a fish, teach to fish . . .). So the math is find P size weight (per the psi on the door tag) in the P table. Multiply x .9 (as the manufacturer uprated the p size by 1.1), and use that weight on the LT chart?

And many thanks!:clap::beer:
