So, I checked my timing on the 87 22re without the jumper, and low and behold it was dead on 5. I thought wow, guess thats not the problem. Then I got home and read the FSM where it says to jump it. Does this mean my real timing is about -2 deg??

I have a mid range acceleration issue. Once the rpms are up, I'm fine. Could this be my problem?

Igniter, coil, dist cap, wires, plugs, tps, replaced with OEM parts. Gotta little suction on the exhaust and the midrange power is suffering. I have also pulled the TB and cleaned it. All new vacuum hoses including two on valve cover.

3 cans of Seafoam ran through intake to clean. Also flushed the exhaust ports and pistons with a Seafoam, diesel fuel, Auto Tranny mixture. You should have seen what came out of there. Helped some, but not significantly.

Thoughts???

No, I dont have a scan tool. But I think its 7 degrees off since it read 5 with no jumper. I thought it was supposed to read about 12 w/o the jumper???

You don't need a scan tool. A small length of wire or paper clip is what you need to jump the 2 terminals. When it's jumped count the number of "check engine" flashes and refer to your FSM.

yes. if the spark is firing anywhere after top dead center, then there will be a power loss.
if you have a infrared thermo meter, measure the exhaust manifold. it shoudnt be above 375F

if it is the fuel is not combusting properly and igniting to late, (retarded timing) thus heating the manifold.

use T and E1 to check codes and set timing. do that and report back

Hmm...just developed a crack about 8" down the pipe from the manifold..makes since!! I will report back in the morning. I have access to one of those, may be Sunday on the thermo.

This is absolutely correct. There should be a difference between timing with the connector shorted and unshorted. The problem is, you have this backwards.

It should be timed at 5* SHORTED, which will give you around 12* unshorted.

Follow up...I bought a timing gun and checked it. Shorted, it was at -1, so I moved it up to about 5-6. Power is up big time during accelleration, unfortunately, I didnt get to check the compression.

This is what I did for 16 hrs this weekend!!
