This was the last straw for my dealings with the TLCA.

I ship all over the world on a regular basis, UPS has the highest brokerage fees that I know of. To avoid paying high UPS brokerage fees use their Expedited or express service (air), when you use ground service it seems cheaper but UPS hammers you with brokerage fees if you use their brokers.

UPS air service has a small fees built into it but nothing like the brokerage fee - you do not have pay brokerage fees when shipping air - but you still have to pay duties.

Personally I think there are just as reliable ways to ship, UPS is not the only player in town.

Jason is right about UPS

I always try to avoid UPS. However, they seem to be revered by some vendors; depends who you're talking to. In the past, I've asked specifically of some (not TLCA) to allow me to choose another carrier, and been refused despite my examples of UPS gouging.

UPS is consistently zealous in their overbilling for "brokerage". Mailings to Canada via USPS to Canada Post don't charge anything beyond postage, then collect duty upon delivery as required; their role as agents for some cross border paperwork is seen as routine. They've been doing it forever, right? With the mail services, we are the ones ultimately responsible for dealing with customs and customs never forgets ya...

UPS seems to figure their service is like gold; everybody must want it and need it. I have on several occasions been charged brokerage fees higher than the value of the item delivered; on one occasion, duty wasn't even charged by Canada Customs. The mail services see their job as ordinary and they get it done. And finally, reliability is not perfect in any of these services; many others can tell UPS horror stories.

Hopefully TLCA will understand a bit about this cost to it's cross-border members and choose another carrier or at least offer a choice.

Cheers..

Your thoughts have been heard. TLCA no longer controls it's merchandise. It is farmed out. So we've contracted out the production, packaging, and shipment. I will ask if there is a way that the company TLCA uses can ship via an alternate company to Canada. I'm not sure that is an option for us to specify how they ship at this point. But I will ask that is about all I can promise.

As for the events, a lot of the TLCA events in the US are a long ways from our members. The closest one for me is a full day's drive. You chapter always has the option of creating their own event with the exception of Rubithon this how all the other TLCA events are planned and hosted.

If he deletes his first post, it will delete the thread.....

Or at least it used to...

Wow... There's 10 minutes of my life that I'll never get back.

Since this guy won't say, "Thank you" please allow me as a TLCA member to say thank you for trying to help us fools that you call "friends" in the thread above. This is despite us throwing tantrums in public and escalating to a point of fury and then saying that we didn't want it to go there.:crybaby:

Thank you much for putting up w/ us..

Sincerely,
Scott Barrilleaux

With Gary, I would happily chip in to make this go away.

Sorry but as Canuck I am a little embarased to say the least.

Also, I think UPS are the folks you should be bringing this up with.

Waggoner and Radd... you guys rock!

We all get hung up on issues sometimes. I can sympathize with Jason because he's caught up in the injustice he feels toward UPS. Certainly, as cruiserheads, we should understand he's right and support him.

Well... we do support him. I deal with some really hairy issues at work and at home. I wish all my cruiserhead friends could make the problems go away. But, my problems are just that. Mine.

Jason, you got friends down here trying to help you out. We can't do ditilly about UPS. We're trying to keep TLCA's costs down and service as good as we can. I know the outside company handling merchandise is working to find a better way to send stuff to Canada. All I can say is, keep hanging with us. And, please understand we want you with us, not PO'd.

Hope that helps.

Agreed. Not always what you say but how you say it. ...

Good luck
Scott

I believe this is my favorite thread of all time.

Ya'll just can't even imagine how hard it's been for me NOT to present my solution to this gentleman's dilemma. :grinpimp:

Even my therapists are proud of me.

Do tell Kowboy!

Great to hear 'bout your therapist. My WalMart isn't a Super WalMart yet, so I don't have access to therapy yet.

Just for UPS clarification purposes. I bought a dryer cord for mymy dryer for .030 from a manufacturer in Ontario. Shipping with UPS directly was $34. This is NOT shipping and handling etc. This is true shipping charges.
