Most of the body panels are mounted, doors will be last, so we can align everything

Now we are waiting for hardware to show up.

Moving forward,
Jr.
About to put a 5.3 in a 40. See you did the 60 series power steering. Looks like you found a way to place it without the steering shaft interfering with the stock shock tower. Most are forced to do a f250 shock tower mod. Can you please share how you did this with the stock shock tower? Any pics from the engine bay to shape steering shaft clearance with headers and shock tower?

How’s the progress
Moving along at a good pace.
The floors and fire wall are patched up, the underside is sealed and painted

The dreaded cracked manifold has been replaced and it now has a full exhaust

After five days the gate is reskinned and solid again

The rear sill and body mounts have also been done, no pics, what a pain that was! Next is quarter panels...yay...

This is the best pic I could find. It's of the 45, which is a 55 frame and about 1.5" wider than a 40.

The tower usually needs to be moved towards the rear so the box will clear the radiator. A 1/4" plate is welded to the outside of the frame, to strengthen and too give additional clearance for the rad as well. The inside rib on the shock tower needs to be clearanced for the steering shaft too. The towers are forged steel and extremely strong, don't worry about notching them.
Depending on lift, cut and turned, or not, you may need to reposition the lower mount on the axle to relieve shock bind.

Good luck,

Jr.
